When to wear a medical band?

Hi,

A friend has been given a pace maker and been told she must wear a band advising she has one.

Last year a school has also told one of the kids that they must wear a band advising of thier alergy on school trips.

I never knew this was a thing until recently and now I’m concerned none of my family wear a band for allergies etc. Is there list anywhere that says when you should/shouldn’t wear one?

I'm based in the UK

Many thanks

You only need to wear a warning band if you have a life threatening allergy, or something like a pacemaker. Especially if your condition could make you pass out or cause fits eg diabetes or epilepsy. Or if you have an allergy to a drug, EG penicillin, which could kill you. Or a severe food allergy. If these people need medical attention the paramedics always look for something like this first, especially with children and young people, who often cant explain what may be wrong. The most common thing to wear can be a bracelet or a pendant on a chain. There are lots of websites where you can purchase these with your specific allergy engraved or children usually wear a coloured plastic band with the details on it.

Please dont be tempted to use these for trivial reasons.
