When will the moon face go?

Hello everybody!

i was diagnosed and started 15mg Prednisolone in July 2014. I am currently reducing from 6.5 to 6mg using DSNS method and it's going quite well. The thing is, when oh when will the moon face go?

I've also gained about 2 stones and getting that off is still dufficult. Cutting the carbs but it's soooo slow! While I'm here, I was hoping that the blurry eyes would improve as the dose got lower, but that's much about the same too.

Just felt like a whinge... Sorry, I realise there are much worse side effects! And I am one if the lucky ones in that I am pain free if I am on the right dose of Pred.

Whinge away!  We've all been there.  In fact I feel like having a bit of a whinge here today, myself.  I've been quoting someone, who's name I did not note, unfotunately, who posted on one of these forums the very wise words "It's not slow if it workd."  Keep telling myself that.  Also there is a delightful poem by Piet Hein who wrote "Grooks"

It's the usual answer I'm afraid - how long is a piece of string!

I lost weight VERY slowly too, usual was 1lb a month and on a REALLY good month it was 2lb. But as my GP said, it is all a bit less. My fat face had improved well before 6mg but I know some people for whom it doesn't go until the pred is stopped. I said on another post recently - look around you. Judging by the chubby cheeks 70% of the population is on pred - except we know they aren't. We at least have a good reason!

Look on the bright side - bet you have no wrinkles? I do now ...   rolleyes

I thought of you recently Eileen!  I took a selfy photo with my dog for a record of where we were. In the photo I noticed my wrinkles! Dang.  I didn't have too many before PMR!! And now that my moon face sort of going away, there they reside...wrinkles.  My problem too is the bags under my eyes are so big and dark. I don't even recognize myself any more. Also, noticed how my skin is lose and droopy. Even noticed it on my inside elbow as I bent it the other day.  Maybe from losing weight? Maybe collegen disappearing? Maybe thin skin from Predisone?

My skin not dry anymore, but, certainly not tight anymore!

Sheila, I'm sorry I can't remember exactly when my moon face disappeared, but, importantly, it did!  I think the difference was so gradual that I didn't notice it happening until it was suddenly 'normal' again!  Bear in mind that we are all a little different in our symptoms and how we respond to the treatment, therefore it can happen whilst at different doses.

Likewise with blurry vision.  I remember thinking that perhaps because I was experiencing GCA as well as PMR, the blurred vision would be with me forever.  But it continued to improve the lower I got on the steroid dose.

Certainly if you can lose some of the extra weight, I feel sure that will have a knock-on effect on the moon face.  Difficult, I know, but once you are below 5mgs, it will get easier.  As well as cutting carbs, have you tried introducing as many known diuretic-type foods into your diet as possible?  Asparagus, garlic, fennel and melon to name a few.

Meanwhile, if all else fails, whinge away - that never did anyone any harm.....anyway, it's good to talk!wink

Although I'm not a meat eater, I just changed my diet last week to meat and veggies, NO carbs,  interval walking  and I AM losing weight, like a miracle.  I've stuck to this.  Cucumbers are a diuretic, basically no calories, use with some skin, also watermelon (not always available).  I am amazed.  My face has gotten chubbier, but no wrinkles!  Ha!
