When will this get better 😥

I'm coming up to 6 weeks now on 40mg citalopram and the past few days have been really difficult again!
morning anxiety is so hard to deal with
My mood is really low
I was finding evenings a little easier but that doesn't seem to be happening anymore.
My anxiety is still bad
I just feel like giving up atm and that these tablets aren't gonna work for me anymore. It's so hard not to go to the doctors to switch to something else. How much longer do I have to keep going for? Surely I would have seen some improvement by now.

How will I know if a dose is too high for me? I have questioned that x

if you are feeling horrible every single day without no relief at all.thats how you know it may be too high.when i reduce my anxiety side effects from the celexa were severe.after reducing it calm down.mind you they were still there but not severe.

It's so hard to know what to do! I might make an appointment to see my gp but I know they will probably tell me to switch and I don't wanna waste 6 weeks if they are going to work if that makes sense x then go through withdrawal aswell. Uggghhh I'm so fed up.

It's hard to tell if I have made improvements. I think I might have but its so hard to tell when you have the anxiety and depression everyday. The only thing I have noticed is that I can talk a little more and the waves of adrenaline/dispair are less intense. But that's all I've noticed. Also I still feel really down but haven't cried in about a week or so

get relief and take your benzo.

while your system is trying to settle on a dose the worst thing you can do is add another med for relief in my opinion, as it works for some but goes very wrong for others

I agree, possibly 40mg is just too high. I was on 10mg for 5 weeks, and I've been on 20mg for over 6 months now and while I noticed very little positive effects such as: anxiety had lessened, I wasn't having severe panic attacks, I still felt awful, and I had started having DP/DR, intrusive thoughts and became numb to my emotions (couldn't cry) so while the two things improved a little the others took over. The doctor just kept wanting to increase the dose, but I felt that the 20mg already may be a little too much so I stuck with it, hoping that it would really start getting better but it didn't. So as someone suggested that has experience with taking this medication that it was possibly too high, I cut down to 15 mg for 2 weeks now and although not feeling great, I am starting to have more good days then bad, I feel I am getting my emotions back, and the DP DR is much less severe already. Also, I am able to go out and do things, go shopping, family get togethers without getting overwhelmed like I used too so that is a positive! I am going to continue on with the 15mg for awhile longer a couple months probably and see how it goes, worst case if I do happen to have to switch I'll already be a little lower already.
Best Wishes! Hang in there, most of us here know exactly how you feel and have gotten better, it just seems impossible at points but don't let it get you down!

you have taken the benzo before you aint no rookie to meds.if it work before n you had no problems with the benzo your doctor prescribe you.go ahead .while my system settle on my dose .the benzo was my best friend.the majority of folks going thru this settling drama take a benzo for relief.my phychiatrist also prescribes benzo while weaning.it just makes the process easier.best regards

Thank you for taking time to reply. Hopefully soon things will start looking up for you even more 😊 it sounds like you have been through a rough time yourself. It's just the depression and anxiety that's still pretty bad. I don't seem to be having any other side effects now. So shall I wait a little longer before I lower the dose as I'm only on 6 weeks so far. Seems like forever though 😢 I'm lucky that I haven't experienced DP/Dr because that sounds really horrible.

I know what you mean. I am a little worried but it would be nice just to have some relief even if it is just for a little while so I can just have a break.

That'll only work for a little while then I'm back to the beginning when it wears off. I have my son tomorrow and he wants to go out for the day to the aquarium so I might save it untill then 🤔

Yeah you do make a good point. I'm gonna see how I get on today and if I'm still bad in the evening then I'll take one and hopefully it'll be nice just to not feel crap for an hour or so x how long should I keep taking the citalopram before I consider changing just so I know? If you can remember how did you feel 6 weeks in?

I am sorry this is still bothering you so much. My symptoms continue to get worse, as well. Im almost up to six weeks on 30mg. I dont know how to function feeling like this all day. The Xanex barely helps at a 0.25mg dose. I have had a few good days a couple of weeks ago, but its only gotten worse from there. Shaky, no appetite, anxious, intrusive thoughts, have all come back and as bad as when I first started taking Cit. I do think I may need to wean back down to 20mg, maybe going to 25mg for a while first. Its so exhausting!

Sorry Laura I didn't see your message earlier about how you are getting on. Oh no I was hoping that you would be seeing some relief by now. Have you spoken to a doc about how you are? Because it must be so disheartening that you aren't feeling any relief. What about increasing? Or do you think that will not help and make you worse?

i would wean down .i felt exactly like you mention .

Lois,
The last three mornings Ive considered weaning, and then I end up taking the full dose out of fear Im going to make things worse. It feels like a lose lose situation.

Hi x some people are are fine on this med and don't get any side effects or if they do they are really mild, but some people get the side effects really bad.
It can increase feelings of anxiety and depression temporarily while it starts to work, headaches, nausea, dizzyness, brain fog, stomach upset, their is a few more side effects. Doesn't mean your friend will get them all, or any but yeah, very hard to deal with when you already dont feel well.
