Whenever I close my eyes for a few minutes, odd things happen?

There is a sound like a spring being let off (boing), then my vision flickers white-black a few times, then it feels like an electric shock going all the way through my body. It's hard to move for about 30 seconds. It hurts and stings and it's like waves going through me.

Do you have Graves disease?  If so, you also have thyroid eye disease that can go along with Graves disease.  This causes inflammation of the eyes and swelling and pressure behind the eyes such that in the worse cases, eyeballs protrude.  For others, there is just discomfort like dry or red eyes and grittiness in the eyes.  If this is the case, you need to see an ocular specialist who specializes in treating Graves eyes disease otherwise known as TED (thyroid eye disease).  If you do not have thyroid problems, then I would see an ophthalmologist for starters.

I would ask your doctor to check your thyroid blood levels.  For some people the eye disease is more prominent than other thyroid symptoms.
