Where can I get a privately paid for HIDA scan?

Any body know where I get get a HIDA scan done? I live 30 miles south of London . The only place I’ve found said it would be £900 and I’d need a referral from my doctor. Do you always need a referral? Is it a referral from your GP or is it a referral from a Gastro specialist that’s needed ?
I’ve been having right sided pain under ribs sometimes after eating but oddly mainly after coffee energy drinks herbal teas and alcohol. Sometimes the pain can last all day and is just a constant dull ache. Over the past year my stools are much lighter and not as solid My doctors useless and keeps insisting my pain is gastritus but I’ve been on 2 different medications for that for months To no affect.
I’ve had two ultra sounds the first one said I had a 3 mm polyp and 1 year later the polyp was gone (1 year Healthy eating may be) gallbladder now looks fine on ultrasound but pain is slowly getting worse. The pain is not from my liver as I paid for a private fibroscan in which I got excellent results and always good bloods do I can Rule that out.
Ive finally got my GP to send me to a Gastro specialist after a year of pain. But after receiving the letter to book an appointment I was told I’m looking at October just to see a Gastro specialist as my GP put it Down as non urgent. (Think GP doesn’t like me) I can’t go on like this.
I’m sure my gallbladder isn’t working properly
Any information is greatly appreciated thanks

Hi Kevin, I can't answer your question but would be interested in any repllies you get as i'm going through the same thing. I can't be far from you as i live in the South East.
My GP has also been a total waste of space. I've seen a Gastro but it took nearly 8 months of pushing. I saw him nearly a year ago and he's been hopeless also.
Have you had no other scans? Just ultrasounds? I've had 1 normal ultrasound, normal. 1 CT, normal. 2nd ultrasound showed thickened gallbladder wall and shadow. Surgeon ordered MRCP/MRI all normal no shadow, no thickening. So now back to square one.
Sounds like i've had a lot of tests but this has been going on for 20 months, I've had to fight and push for everything, it's such hard work. They won't give me a HIDA.
I don't see why you should need a referral. It's no skin off your GP's nose, apart from the 5 minutes it would take him to do it.
Good Luck

The NHS are useless I can’t get anyone to take me seriously. Everyone I see says it’s gastritis. I’ve had one doctor tell me it’s in my head. The last doctor actually said to me “well it can’t be anything to bad or you’d be dead by now”
So are we meant to wait until we are on deaths door to be treated? I live in daily pain and all I want is answers. Before this I never saw a doctor in 10 years. So you would think they would take it more seriously. Not fair to live a life of pain.
Sick of being fobbed off

Same as.👎I won't go through my whole story but i've got every gallbladder problem symptom going. I've written everything down and i've been on at my GP 23 times in just over 9 months. In the last 20 months probably 40 times., they just won't listen and like you i never go to the Dr's. My GP is a turd and so was the Gastro!!
Never ever have i used the NHS and have come to realise it's S**T!

It can't be anything serious or you'd be dead by now! Jesus, what a muppet! I was so close to asking my GP last week if he's being so obtuse on purpose or if it's part of a GP's training!

Hi Kevin
What I would do is call around all the private hospitals within travelling distance and find out if it's available and their prices.
I think a GP referral is standard even for private treatment. But if you are asking for a referral for private treatment you're entitled to ask your GP give you one and it's hard to see how they could refuse. If they did and you were determined then find a private GP and get it that way.
Gastro symptoms are practically the same for everything. I spent 2+ years being treated for issues I didn't have.

Hi Kevin, Im also looking for info on a HIDA scan as my Dr's don't have an idea what this test even is!! I can find no information on the internet about the Test in relation to a private test or cost but I have seen lots of USA info and the price you quote sounds about right. If your having the test done privately I do not see why you need a referral but I do not know, I have spoken with 2 Dr's and they did not know what it is.
I am like you and pretty much sure my GB is not functioning properly but I just bang my head on a brick wall.
I have been ill for years but it was only last year someone said it sounded like my Gall Bladder and the scans I have had all show a fatty liver and sludge in GB. If Anyone knows of a place in the S. E I would be grateful

I have had all the signs of Bile Duct or Gall bladder infection for over 3 years.
they have sent me for ultrasounds which show inconclusive also MRI which showed NO GALL STONES but that doesn't rule out Bile Duct Infection
I have upper right quadrant pain
fatty liver and stiff liver
chills in my chest
Night sweats
right hand upper back back pain leading into my neck on the right
Severe scalp itching
when I eat it seems to stop in my chest but I don't get Acid Reflux
I was diagnosed with a heart attack in January 2020 simply because they found Troponin in my blood sample but Angiography showed no blockage.
Troponin is visible in the blood if you are suffering from Acute Cholecystitis.
They found High White Blood count but ignored the infection for a heart attack.
I have gone from Passing stools once a day to now 5 times a day and the odour of onions is always present abd the colour resembles Tumeric at times but caramel at others.
I went to A & E 5 days ago at Sunderland Royal Hospital as I had a Severe pain in my left side of my Rib Cage, Almost as if my ribs had been broken the pain was so severe but I was just sitting at the time.
I tried to push myself out of the chair but the pain was unbearable, This happened 10 days ago but as the pain was so intense I decided I need to go to hospital.
I outlined all my symptoms enforcing the fact that it wasn't my heart and explaining about my BILE DUCT SYMPTOMS .
they drew blood, Took ECG kept me sitting for 5 hours and dusvarged me saying I had pulled a muscle.
sitting watching TV I had pulled a muscle.
After checking symptoms online it pointed to Pleurisy which is brought on by a viral infection within the body, Maybe my infected bile duct or infected colon or whatever I have but can't get diagnosed.
I have since spent the rest of the week unable to sleep and struggling to breathe due to the severe chest pain.
I am also have problems passing urine and am concerned the bile duct infection is compromising my kidney function.
I have started going down the line of self blood testing and am horrified to find SO MANY PEOPLE SUFFERING FROM N.H.S NEGLIGENCE.
I am now seeking proof of such Negligence by having a HIDA SCAN so I can take legal action against the N.H.S as in my opinion they are putting my life in great danger from Cancer related problems.

Kims Private Hospital Maidstone. Costs around £400 for scan which lasts about 2 hours but you need to be referred. Consultation with Gastroenterologist is around £150 to £200.
Kent and Canterbury hospital also do them privately I gather.
