where did i get herpes from

I just found out I have herpes yesterday, I was tested back in 2011 and it was negative I started dealing with someone who has had a cold sore I got tested and now I have it, I went to c him and we always kiss (no cold sore visible) now b4 my menstrual comes one I always since I was a kid got a pimple on my face this one time I busted it a few days before I went to c him we kissed then about 2 weeks later he had a cold sore, now I have read that u only get it through kissing if the person has a cold sore and the fluids from said cold sore transfers the disease, so my question is could I have given it to him through my popped zit? I told him about my results because we have no secrets and always kept it 100 wit each other. we know that there is a possibility that I could have gotten it from him as well he told me after the cold sore popped up and gone that someone he dealt with a while ago said she had got it years ago but since he never got a cold sore he figured he didnt have it I'm just wondering if n e one can give me some insight, I know this isn't the end of my world but I honestly will stay with this man since we both have it, I never wanna have the herpes talk wit n e body else .because I'm not a big fan of rejection and this thing is embarrassing

Are you talking about cold sores in the mouth? So you went to get tested to find out, if you have herpes in the mouth? Why are you concerned about oral herpes and that yiu have to disclose to future people before you kiss? Nobody treats oral herpes that way, but they probably should, because 30-50% of new genital herpes cases are acquired from oral sex w HSV 1.

Thing is we never had sex just kissed so my question is could I have gotten it from him when we kissed and I had that popped zit or did he get it from me, and either way it's herpes and it needs to b talked about to n e body who I may decide to be intimate with

Where was the zit? It wasn't on the lip line right? Then it's not a cold sore .

Why did you go get tested if you've never had sex? You cannot get it from a zit, if it was in fact a zit. If you have previously tested negative, your current partner has a history of cokkd sores and Noe you test positive, then it is very likely you got it from him.

May I ask how old you are, because I've never heard anyone ask this in such away, as if they got genital herpes, but it's actually oral herpes?. Society doesn't seem to view oral and genital herpes the same way. So no, people do not discuss before kissing, if they have oral herpes and unfortunately, the discussion isn't happening enough and is why it is being spread to the genitals.

You're on the right train of thought on this and it should be viewed in the manner that you are, but because 80% of Americans have HSV 1, it is so common, that it is swept under the rug and then called cold sores.. Yet genital herpes keeps the stigma. So no, people do not discuss this before they kiss, although it should be and yes, you are right, it should be discussed most definitely before oral sex.

The majority of the population gets oral herpes as toddlers, kids and teens. Did I answer your questions or concerns or is there something else I can help clear up?

He said he has never gotten a cold sore til said cold sore, I'm 32, all I have read says that lots of people have it, Im dealing with it but still upset

He doeswhave to get a cold sore to have it and pass it on. As I stated previously, most people are asymptomatic. I got cold sores are 22 from my ex and I have never had a cold sore ony mouth. I had them inside my mouth during the first outbreak, hut after that, I don't get them on my mouth and this is 11yrs later.

It's actually rare that you didn't get oral herpes till you were 32, most get them before they are adults. Super common, nothing to worry about. Just make sure to refrain from oral sex if you have tingling on your lips, itching or Amy presence of a sore or you can pass it to the genitals

OK thanks a lot I have been trying to find out if I could have given it to him through that zit no one had the answer not even my doctor, sad right!

Well you weren't very descriptive on the location of the zit, so I cannot determine of it is a zit or a cold sore. Cold sores and zits look very different.

In between my lip and my nose no where on the lip line or touching my lip

Then it wasn't a cold sore and you didn't pass it to him. Have you ever had a cold sore or did you just come up positive for HSV 1 on a blood test?

OK, but did you test positive on a blood test? If yes and you have no symptoms, then yiu are an asymptomatic carrier of the virus and there is no telling how long you have had it and may have had it, since you were a kid. It is nothing to be concerned about.

OK, then whomever you have kissed between 2011 and now, gave it to you.

Does everyone get their first outbreak within that first 21days?

No, not necessarily. It all depends on how the persons immune system handles the virus. Some will never have an outbreak, which I mentioned earlier, which is called an asymptomatic carrier and is still contagious, whether they have symptoms or not. The virus sheds during periods w people who show no symptoms and w people who do. There is no for sure protocol if and when someone will breakout. It has taken people years to have an ob. You cannot pinpoint heroes, like you can w other diseases. It is as unique and different w symptoms or lack there of, as your thumbprint.

May I ask why you seem so bothered by your diagnosis, considering 80% of the population has oral herpes and you have no symptoms?

Well, that is obvious. I'm just trying to understand why you are worrying yourself and treating this, like it is an HIV diagnosis or something? That is why I thought you were like 15yrs old when posting. Just a first for me to see I guess and I've seen a lot.

Lol well it's my first time with this, I know it's not HIV but it's still something I will b carrying with me for the rest of my life

Understood .. Just don't stigmatize yourself w it. Chances are, you're going to kiss other guys w it too. We all are carrying viruses around w us, that will be w us for life. Had chicken pox? That's a type of herpes virus and it has been dormant since you had chicken pox as a kid, if you did have it. Those are just two, among the 8 human herpes virus, that the vast majority will be carrying by the time they're adults, about 4-6 out of the 8. So don't stress yourself.
