Where do I go from here

Hi all, I have posted on here before regarding strange symptoms I have been getting, basically I am 57 female and for 18 months have been getting fast heart beats, chest pain, numbness in arms and generally feeling strange in that area.  All tests show nothing, GP have watched my heart beats go up and down and have no idea why.  Got results today from a 24 monitor which simply shows "sinus rhythym with a heart rate varying between 75 and 132, symptoms button pressed four times because of a fast or uncomfortable heart beat. These events were associated with sinus rhythm at a normal rate, no arrthymias or pauses".  Now I know I should be greateful but the 4 times I pushed the button I was sitting down quietly reading and my heart begins to race, I can feel it in my chest and it bangs in my ears and I go slightly woozy, so if it is not heart not sure where to go from here as I cannot just accept it is normal.

I get this too, though i have a long history of heart probelms and surgeries.

They are palputations and can happen for many reasons.i know a few people with no heart problems who get them regularly. Sometimes diet can effect it ie caffiene, fatty food, alcohol, menopause (i am presuming your female).

If you get other symptoms like heavy legs, blue fingers, toes or lips, then theres is a good chance it could be heart related as i have these and know others with heart conditions do too. If you are still very worried you could request an echocardiogram from your hospital, though they may say they will only perform one there is evidence to do so.

Hope you get some answers x

Hi Chantelle, thanks for you reply, yes I am female and live in UK.  I have had several ECG's, scans and X rays and an angiogram nothing showed up.  What freaks me is that I can be sitting happily and then for no reason pain, palps, banging in chest and dizziness, I check my heart rate and it goes for 72 to 112 in seconds, up and down.  Two A&E doctors saw it happening on monitor and both seemed confused.  One said it was thyroid but GP did a thyroid test and all was normal.  I do have swollen ankles but GP said not heart related just that I sit at work for long periods at a computer.  I did think it may be food related but happens at odd times.  What I am struggling with is that when my heart races for no reason that puts me more at risk of a heart attack surely.  I am sure this all started after a reaction to an anti-biotic but GP's look at me as if I am mad.  Will just keep asking and hope I get an answer.  Take care

Hmm, all i can think if is to keep doing what your doing. Keep a written diary of everything that happens and when and what you are doing at the time and after a month go to your gp with it and if they still do nothing do the same and go back the next month and so on. Keep on at them!

I am going to have to, I am wasting far too much time panicking is today the last one everytime it happens that I need to get some sort of answers to start enjoying life again.  Sounds mad I know but that is how I am feeling. I am even too scared to exercise in case I bring on a heart  attack

You are not mad. What was the antibiotic? I have had a similar reaction and I also went into afib after taking Cipro.

To be honest I cannot find out, what happened was that a small lump was removed from my face which turned septic, so I was given the usual anti-b's and when they did not work was give a couple of different ones, one of which was weird in that instead of 3 per day for 7 days ie 21 tablets, I only took 1 tablet for 3 days, they were that strong. Als sure they have X in the name but not according to GP.  Anyway was sitting a work and felt weird, my boss said what is wrong with your face, it had swollen slightly and was all blotchy and my heart was racing.  I went straight to GP and was put on ECG where they said they could feel extra beats, felt like missing ones to me, but not to them.  This started all the problems I am having now, I have asked several times and even looked at my record but no one made a note of the one that caused the problem, they told what I had during this period and when I google them there are cases of heart problems with these type of tablets.  When I mention this to GP's and I have said it to at least 4 they look at me as if I am mad. So I am just going to keep bugging them until they listen.

Your medical records should show clearly what has been prescribed. It is unacceptable that you have not been told exactly what you were given especially as a cardiac reaction to an antibiotic of the fluoroquinolone class ( the generic names of which all have ox in them) means that it would be dangerous to take one again and this should be in your medical records. Have you had any other issues such as tendonitis or neuropathy as this class of abx can cause multiple adverse reactions some of which can appear months later .

I was not happy about it either as I had expected there to be a note on my record that a reaction had happened, but GP could not tell me which one was just 3 tablets, I was given the names of what I had taken and I think one did have an ox, I should have noted them down but stupidly didn't as GP was convinced there was no connection. Yes I had achillies tendonitis around the same time which is only just going.  I find it amazing that we can see these problems from the internet but GP's do not or will not believe there is a connection.  All I know is that I will think long and hard before ever taking an anti b again.  I spent 6 months on probiotics trying to get my stomach back to normal.

It looks like e you have been floxed. Achilles tendonitis is a sure sign. I would go to the Floxiehope website which has very good info on this and what supplements you can take to help. I too had a cardiac reaction to Cipro and luckily have not been left with a continuing problem. But I spent several days in hospital. Here in France they are cautious - I ' m sure if I was still living in UK I would not have been allowed to occupy a bed for so long once they had got my heart back into sinus rhythm.

Could be anaemia? Maybe you could get a blood test done! I had similar symptoms but it turned out to be congenital heart disease and SVTS and as your monitor says its normal then I doubt it's that!

HI, I am the other way round, I have too much iron, but not enough at this stage for GP to do anything about.  Sorry to hear about your diagnosis, but in one way at least you know, if that makes sense.  At 57 I would expect to have some wear and tear but I had an angiogram which showed zero calcium and they are virtually 100% sure of no artery disease, not sure if that means no heart disease or is that a different test?  Really weird as all seems great on testing but I am still sitting here with heart banging and what feels like a mild buzzy sensation in chest.

I am actually experiencing something very similar, my heart keeps racing for no reasons and it's not being found on a monitor! But they can feel my pulse fine when they take it and feel it's fast! How does it feel when you are active, walking fast, running, exercise? I'm 17 and my hr goes up to 200 just from walking fast!

Hi, mine is not found on monitor either, but GP can feel it when they check pulse.  I am too scared to exercise properly at the moment so highest my rate has gone is 135 which was whilst hardly moving, I am gradually starting to walk further and a bit faster so that I can built up heart muscle gently tp bring down testing rate which is about 72.  You are very young to be having all these problems which is sad.  I am 57 so expect a few creeky bits now and again.  Take care
