Where on the Bristol stool chart does your IBS sit?

so I thought this might be helpful not only to me but others suffering from IBS.

Especially those not certain if they truly have IBS.

As, let's face it, it's hard to believe it's not something else!

I seem to be all over the place.

Just now I've done no 5 Bristol stool chart then back again for long skinny worms.

normally I'm a no 5 currently but recently I was either a 1 and 2 followed by 6!

anyone else - what is your standard Bristol stool chart number for poop!!

i never get a 4 - well no I do but very occasionally like once a month and I use to get the all the time!!

Thanks for posting this - most helpful!  Who remembers "You Are What You Eat" with Gillian someone, and her stool analysis!!!!  lol

Now I take Fybogel regularly I am a 4 most of the time, just occasionally I eat the wrong thing and drop to a 1!  Cue an extra Fybogel until back to a 4!

It seems that some people classify IBS as C or D. Some get both. I'm a C, which means mine are at the top end. I don't get 1 very often, thankfully, but I get 2 quite a lot. I also get 3 & 4 regularly. The only time recently when I had anything at the other end was after I ate a bowl of cherries, which I won't do again, although a few might help sometimes!

Mines a 5 or 6 most days. Some times like once a month I have a 1 or 2 but that's because I didn't go the day before or completely empty my bowel. Sorry if tmi! Lol!

Type 1, type 2, 6 and 7 for me, not sure which I get most often since they like to alternate a lot. Current medication (laxido) means its now type 7.

I have found that two things fix IBS for me ,cutting out all Gluten and taking Diatmoucious earth with food. for bed smelling wind strangly enough Cayenne pepper put in a number zero geletin capsule ( half full capsule)  washed down with glass of water , also take just before  food , fixes it all. though for temp fix benerdryll blue packet can do a short tem fix if i am on holliday and dont have these things.

to remove constipation I found a teaspoon of bicarbonated soda  with water before food helps quite bit for some reason. bit salty but I take it realy neat then wash the tast out with a fresh glass of water

thanks for the tips too - I will try the D - earth stuff / sorry can't spell it off hand. X

This is an old thread and this is perhaps unrelated, but has anyone else noticed their stool being two-toned? Or Compact and hard, like a 2, but then soft and mushy like 5 or 6? All in the same sit down or even just throughout the day?

Yes - like it's got impacted.  Then once the hard stuff goes, the rest comes out easily.  I only get it rarely now, as I take the Fybogel daily.  But nobody's perfect and I do eat the wrong stuff from time to time!

Hi, I have exactly the same issue that you have, I could not describe it better.  The recent analyses showed blood in my stool and I will do colonoscopy soon, I have no previous diagnoses though... I will let you know. Do you have IBS or any other diagnose? are you allergic in geneal? Just trying to figure out what that could be that we have

I was diagnosed via my GP- through an explanation of my symptoms- with IBS about a year ago. I go to A GI in a month because I've been having a lot of issues lately- probs just a flare up, but I do want to see if the GI agrees with the diagnosis and/or wants to run some tests to confirm/deny. but my symptoms conicide pretty much 100% with IBS.

IBS and DIverticular Disease have very similar symptoms.  The definitive diagnosis is through a colonoscopy.  I was told initially IBS but the colonoscopy (Failed) followed by a CT scan showed severe Diverticular Disease.  It's not the most pleasant of procedures but at least I got a clear diagnosis.
