Which medication for social anxiety?

Hi all - interested to hear about your experiences if you suffer from social anxiety and which medication / worked best for you. I know there's no quick fix or miracle confidence drug - just something to make me use my assertiveness more and numb my nerves during business meetings and meeting new people. Often my confidence is rock bottom in these situations because I think about it so much.

I have social anxity troubles as well as general anxiety. Prozac did not help so im currently on Cetroliene, day 10 at the moment and no obvious improvment yet.

I have been having CBT for depression (which has not really helped) but many people report great benifits from it. My therapist tells me it can be very helpful to some people with anxiety problems including social anxiety.

I know where you are comming from, I wish I could be more assertive and controle my nerves in certain situations. Will let you know how my new meds work out...

Hi Nick - thanks for the reply - I thought about sertraline too - am currently on Prozac for nearly 6 weeks and not sure if it's helping or not, it does relax me but not so much when I get anxious. Would be very interested to learn how you get on with it.

Effexor helped me but it is a beast of a drug to withdraw from so I would be loathe to recommend it.  Prozac made me very ill indeed.  Hope someone else here is able to advise.

Hi Anne - how long were you on it for and how did it help? I think if I could control my nerves more I'd be happy in life.
