White Tongue? Anyone else, now a year after getting sick.

My tongue looks exactly like the oral hairy leukoplakia photos.
I have to scrub it with a tooth brush and it helps but it doesn't all come off.
My throat still looks as red as day 1. I'm not a year post getting sick and i haven't felt better yet 😦

Hi John
I have had a sore throat for 6 months. Occasionally for a few days it goes and I always get hopeful that I am starting to get better. I've had 2 lots of antibiotics and anti fungal.
My consultant now wants me to have an anesthetic to have a better look but I'm sure it's just this awful virus.
I really hope you get some relief soon.
Take care,
Jeanette

Hi John,
So sorry to hear you're going through this awful time with mono. I can only empathise having been so low and struggled so badly with it myself a number of years ago. And it's awful when you start experiencing symptoms and then it feels like when you look them up it may be something worse or more serious, it is a terrible experience to go through - I just want to reassure you John that I've read so many people on the various threads talk about white tongue and how this is a symptom they have with mono - it seems to be so common and remember it almost certainly is the mono and nothing else causing this, but it's so hard not to worry I know and of course it's always wise to check in with the doc and hoping they can offer some good advice and reassurance.
And also to offer hope John - this virus DOES get better with time, it's so frustrating it can take so long for many though, Year 1 was an awful one for me with it but Year 2 was one of hope, recovery and real progress and liberation - so hang in there John, it does get better and don't panic if it's taking longer than you thought or were told by the docs (doc told me 4-6 weeks!) - this is very normal and it's equally normal to make a full recovery ever after so many months of feeling unwell and struggling with various symptoms - the vast vast majority of people get there with time, I know it doesn't help in the present though when struggling and suffering. It's so hard but just try to take it one day at a time and cope with every day, rest when you need to and if you can talk to someone too that you trust it can really help as going through this is so so hard mentally and emotionally as well as physically, as well all know!
Thinking about you John and keep in touch, let us know how you are going, and hoping so much this white tongue and sore throat settles down - things that have helped me for mouth / throat issues in the past include:

I have the same thing! Sad to have to say this but it is nice to know it's not just me. Does it feel dry too? My eyes have been bothering me as they feel dry and puffy now.

They do! They're sensitive to light as well. I walked outside today and though it was cloudy, I felt like I was looking right at the sun.

i also in the beginning had sensitivity to light too it was bad like that i also use to have a bunch of eye floaters but then a couple weeks ago i started drinking carrot juice and they went away not sure if it was just how it worked out but carrots really are good for your eyes apparently maybe give that a try it couldnt do any damage!
