Four months post op for second hip.  Hated. Being out of action. This week planning to rent tennis machine and see how ii fare. I don't want to commit too much by joining my old group. I do love my tennis.

Good for you, baby steps first so you don't blow all the good work to date! Watch the foot plant/twists, I'm guessing that's not a great move for until the bone is 100%. Having said that, my Doc said that most of the bone regrowth occurs in the first 6 wks. Maybe I got that wrong as it seems amazing. Does  anybody else know this stat?

awesome! Were you an anterior or posterior replacement?

I've been hiking back country but always with a cane or pole. Just got on a real bike yesterday and that was a chore. I'm 9 1/2 wks (posterior lateral) but had a huge loss of strength due to tearing a thigh muscle.

I dont know if this qualifies...But I am a Masters Athlete and do the strenght events like shotput , discus , hammer , javelin and weight throw.....all of these events require strong legs.....and after a THR it is amasing how fast muscle atrophy sets in.....dammmmm age....

How long ago was your hip replacement and what are your goals to get back to any of these sports? Your Doc's advise?

Hi Ceboyd....My Opp was on 11 Feb. this year.....6 months ago.... totally healed now......I can now do things I struggled with for the previous 2 years...I have always been very active in sports and life saving and to suddenly be laid low because of the pain with every movement was hell....if only I had it done immediatly......

Sorry...neglected to mention that I have no - and I mean ZERO - problems at the 6 month mark.....I am again playing with 80 kg bench weights and on a serious program to get ready for the upcoming athletics season.....I mention this torove to other hippies that total recovery is posible.....it toook a while to wrap my mind around the fact that I am not an invalid....I just have a metal joint that is stronger than the original and can not present with any pain....as long as the muscles are trained to do what they did before......it requires a mindshift...that is vital...
