Whole body muscle weakness/atrophy on right side

Posted , 57 users are following.

My symptoms are below:

-Mid 2006- Felt right leg week when I am exercising. Felt right hand weak and fine tremor.

-Did all possible tests and MRI,EMG, everything normal in 2008.

-2006-2017 - I let it go and nothing was bothering.

-But meanwhile all the length I have observed that my right side of the body was little weak in terms of muscle strength and muscle mass.

-I could able to do all the things and can able to do even now.

-But now whole my right side has a little less mass, face, shoulders, trunk hip, glutes, thigh , leg and foot.

-Little that it is not yet innterfering in the daily activities.

-Concerned, I went to neurologist.

-EMG done and it is normal.

-Neuro ordered blood tests.

- midly elevated calcium, aldolase, liver enzymes, album and positive ANA with < 1:80.

-ANA is positive but titer is normal (< 1:80)

-Planning to meet the neuromuscular specialist next month.

-Connecting all dots together till now, I am just wondering what this condition might be?

Given that it is present from long time and I could function normally now with normal EMG, can ALS be ruled out?

Thought this could be polymyositis but I have the weakness and atrophy mosly on one side of the body.

Pleas let me know your thoughts

Saw the third neurologist. Of course he said he saw some atrophy; but, not extreme. He measured me and did all the usual things they do. He said my left side was the same as my right in measurement. Well...of course, my left side used to be bigger. These doctors must be playing with me (us). I showed him my usual key indicators that one would be able to eyeball easily and see the abnormality. I asked him even though my two brain MRI were normal if he thinks my condition is due to a stroke - he said it is unlikely. Said I should go to a doctor who specializes in tendons, because he thinks that may be the reason for my decaying body. I told him I heard the same from the heart specialist who just imaged my heart a few months back. Well, guess I'll check back next update.

Any updates anyone? There are worse things in health (terminal cancer, ALS [if this isn't that], etc.); but, the worsening of my status is weighing heavily on me as each day passes. I kind of want to quit my job and just relax until they find out what is wrong with me - or relax until I fall down for good. I miss the days when I was usually the strongest person in the room (usually). That was only about six years ago. Now I look like a raisin. Where the skin under people's eyes puff out from lack of sleep or age - mine sinks in. You can say that about my knuckles and other parts too. It's as if our bodies are black holes eating itself. These doctors have no imagination of urgency to reveal our problem either. As I said before, I'm in s**t-hole America, a country that used to be good until around 2010. Useless doctors; and if they are not useless, highly corrupt purposely playing obtuse. I wish I could go to Russia, China or Japan, I'm sure those doctors would easily diagnose my (our) problems right away. The original neurologist sent a letter for me to see her again. Guess they want to medically pimp me again. They'll have to come up with something creative to make me go back.

Whatever is going on has my body drooping like it should not. Droopy eyelids, drooping skin under the left part of my chin, drooping portion above butt , droopy forehead skin, droopy knuckles.

I mowed the lawn the other day and my hands hurt in the middle of it gripping it. This isn't anything new. In Spring '20 I was lifting weights and it was a struggle to get just a little stronger from an all-time weak starting point. I know I should try and do some physical activity; however, my brain just won't allow it. I know because all while I was exercising then I was degrading at the same time. On the other hand, I'll degrade quicker If I don't. I'm just someone who prefers to get a result out of effort. I wish I could swim because I actually like that and it's somewhat physically beneficial.

I'm glad I found this feed. Still doesn't answer any questions. I've also wondered if it was a vitamin deficiency or even oxygen at this point. I'm going in for muscle and nerve testing this week and hope there's something to report.

I started noticing back in the early 2000's that my ab muscle would get stuck under my rib and I would have to push it back into place. I broke a rib a couple years earlier so thought that was why it was doing it. I noticed that it had stopped doing it and thought how nice. I've been a single parent most of the last 20 years so paying attention to myself and what I was feeling wasn't a top priority. I don't know what happened to me but I felt a really strange sensation and had the feeling I should go to the ER but didn't. A few months went by and I was extremely sore on my right side all the time. I touched my abs and noticed how shrunk in they had become. Never saw much difference because I was overweight. I watched a video my son in law took and I looked like a hunched over little lady when I walked. I decided I was too young for that and started working out in January. That's when I realized that I had very little mobility in my right side. I had to pry my leg open to do a glute stretch. I couldn't unhook or hook my bra. I went in for a massage and asked for the same spot to me rubbed on both shoulder blades and that's when he said that was as far as my body went in the right and it was considerably smaller than the left. I started freaking out and started looking for answers. It has taken me 5 months to get anyone to even touch me to see there's a difference. I went in for half of the EMG testing and she said there was damage but it was unexplained and this point she she'll check the rest of my Monday on my next appointment. I mentioned Pompe Disease to her and she looked it up, said I do have multiple symptoms and if the rest of the testing shows nothing she suggests getting the blood work done for it. Have you looked at the pictures and seen any similarities? My body is just now starting to twist and deform but I see it and it's noticeable.

Thanks for the information. I noticed my problem in late 2017 / early 2018. Started on the bottom left side of my leg between knee and foot. I noticed while sitting in my vehicle the awkwardness of sitting via my left side (most likely due to the degrading of my leg/hip/buttocks area). Fast forward to Summer of 2019 and while I lied down to go to sleep during the month of June my left leg would tremor uncontrollably. I had been a heavy drinker for the past five-six years and blamed it on that. When Covid-19 appeared in late 2019 and became mainstream in early 2020; I decided it was an easy time to quit drinking and exercise to see if my condition would improve since bars and other things were closed. I exercised and it was awkward due to the lopsidedness of my body (left side having less material than right; though, this was only the beginning). I was very strong just two years ago and had been my whole life in comparison to others. I used to be able to push more than 300 pounds on the bench press / dead lift exercises etc. I was never fragile or even close to it. I exercised and it was a struggle to get stronger and faster; though, I was increasing in strength/speed and endurance slowly for the six months I exercised five days a week (weight lifting x three; running x two). I noticed when I woke up sometimes I could feel my body hollowed out (like my left shoulder blade). Even though I was exercising, I felt my efforts were empty due to my condition progressing - so I stopped. I went back to drinking after meeting someone to socialize, the very next morning my entire right side shrank. It was the first time I drank in six months. My left side shrank progressively via each body part/area. This time my entire right side shrunk all in one swoop. The difference is - my left side [which used to be larger as with everyone] has been far weaker/shrunk more than my right. The left side feels "hollow" in comparison to my right side. If I look at my knuckles with my palms flat on a surface you can see the knuckles sunken in and deflated looking, that summarizes the rest of my body. I've been depressed since 2020 when I realized this problem was going to destroy me. I had never had issues with sadness or depression before - something triggered in my brain over this condition which has left me defeated both objectively and subjectively. I've had times where my lips would tremor too, left eyebrow area, etc. and then find out that they had shrunk and felt more empty/hollow. I have gotten an EMG and many other tests that others in here have gotten and the doctors report the results as normal. I'm kind of giving up on attempting to find an answer since I have seen so many doctors and they play dumb or they may sincerely not know my issue. Either way, it's killing me and my motivation. I used to have large genitals that would get hard as a diamond - now they are shrunken too and inoperable. They say ALS does not affect sexual performance/fertility/ability and I had gotten that EMG test which came back normal. So whatever this is affects more than just the muscles. It even affects cartilage as my left ear's cartilage has shrunk/hollowed out (right side too, just not as severe). I used to be praised for my looks and physique not even five years ago; now, I'm a dwindling corpse waiting to be buried.

I started getting nauseated in August and stopped having my period. Thought it was menopause. Then my period started again in April and my doctor said it wasn't menopause. I'm starting to see a very defined winged scapula which now keeps me from wearing tank tops even though I've lost weight and feel good. My differences are just starting to become very apparent but it's moving quickly. Just since January my right side has gone down hill fast. It's hard to do a push up, or lift much with my right arm now and that's my dominant hand. I'm scared that nobody is going to figure it out and I'm going to become disabled and unable to care for myself soon. My breathing has been affected also. I have been working out for a few months now and regularly. I'm still unable to go up a flight if stairs without getting winded and my legs feeling tired.

Same minus the female-exclusive problems. My long-sleeved shirts now reach halfway down my hands because of my shrinking (of course on top via shoulders/trapezius muscles). My breathing was affected long ago too. I don't have trouble breathing per se; however, I have to breathe deeper for less movement etc. I also have to breathe deeper while asleep etc. I'm also always fatigued now. I used to be the most energetic person in the room usually before this started happening. My constipation is so poor (all while eating a "proper" diet) that I'm forced to use Miralax or some other laxative just go barely go each day. I think my gums have also reduced in size due to this. Since my left side is more affected than the right my spine has curved due to less stability on left side versus right. I could go on and on. Well, good luck in the future. I hope you can return with information if you get any. I see many in this thread from earlier in its history have not. I check this site often because of my desperation.

Have you asked to be tested for Pompe Disease? After reading it, I believe there are many similar symptoms. Good luck to you as well. I have noticed most of the people stopped talking, kind of worried about that. I'm desperate as well and am not looking forward to what I feel is to come.

I haven't. I asked about another disease that someone mentioned here and I was waived off as not having it. I suppose I can bring that up too. But I didn't see it indicate anything about one side being more affected than another.

I have noted that the disappearance of older posters was disturbing as well. A sign for what is to come for us. I started in this thread in the year 2020 and all those who previously posted here before then - only two have returned.

What was the name of the disease you asked about but were dismissed? My weakness is quickly becoming both legs, the atrophy is just on one side though. I feel like I'm racing against time. Frustrated that with all the information and research nobody can figure it out. I also would love to quit my job and enjoy life until either someone figures this out or I die. I feel like it's progressing very quickly at this point.

Amyloidosis, I asked my primary doctor who've I have seen for over 20 years and my current (one of three) Neurologist and they both shot down my suggestion without any second thought. I'm surprised you said this started in early 2000's and has just recently accelerated. That is about 20 years of this. I started noticing my problems at very late 2017 or early 2018 and they started accelerating quickly the summer of 2020.

To be honest, I'm starting to think maybe what I noticed with my abs shrinking and what is starting to go on with me might not be related. Since January and really in the last 2 months, I've really gone downhill. I think whatever this is, is quickly taking me down. In the last 2 months my breathing has changed, my eating. There are times my muscles in my right side (arm only) feel like they just ache. Other times I feel like they're so heavy and it's clumsy feeling. I swear I can feel them all tightening and there's nothing I can do about it but try and stretch out it later. I'm a machine operator and this has been slowly taking its toll on my job. The last 2 months have been hard and even more so, the last week. I'm getting really worried that I'll be crippled.

You're already crippled as with all of us here. Before finding a solution you have to identify the problem. That's the "problem" too; these arrogant doctors won't reveal the actual diagnosis - or they are too inept. I walked a few miles last night and my left leg felt like it did in summer of 2019 when it started having tremors after lying down. It didn't tremor; but, it felt as if it was about to again. That was one of my first major signs of decay. My more affected area is on the left.

Have you ever done drugs (including drinking liquor)? Or have you ever had a head injury? Issue with your heart etc.?
