Why!

Been on Cit since Feb lucky I didn't have too many side affects & it worked pretty quickly then April the anxiety & all that goes with it came back so Doc increased me from 20mg to 40 mg & again worked pretty quickly. However starting 2 days ago I could feel it all coming back & today it's really bad & I am scared that I will go back to the beginning which was really horrid . Has anyone else experienced a return of anxiety & depression after such a long time on the med & feeling good ?

HI Linda 05005,
Yes, I have had something similar. I've been on 20mg citalopram for 3 years now (withdrawing at moment using the citalopram drops). I had a recent experience where I started getting really anxious after a long time of feeling good. It was caused by a problem with insulin and hypos (i'm also diabetic). This caused the anxiety to return, so I upped my dose from 20mg to 25mg for a couple of weeks which sorted me out. Perhaps there are life events which can overwhelm us sometimes. I hope your anxiety settles again and you can look forward to feeling better and eventually getting (very gradually tapered) off the citalopram.

Hi Linda, Thats the serotonin levels spiking I have been on Cita since May last year with a 2 month break 1 month ago as it was causing me to go back on them (I need the serotonin I guess) as my brain chemistry is unbalanced and that levels me? Over the period being on citalopram I have experienced some yet few times when I've had anxiety or fatique. I believe the meds for me are a better that not.... I think stress triggers my symptoms and so too poor sleep so look at those things in your life also but most of all you'll be ok hang in there dont lose faith if you do have an off day we all get them on this forum

Thanks Steve I am moving house & area if all goes well in about 3 wks do I presume this is why I am returning to anxiety etc. I will try & control it as best I can it is really scary . But the kind comments & support being shown on the forum help tremendously making me feel I am not alone 😃

Hi Linda, it quite possibly could be the trigger to any anxiety, I know I get a bit anxious with unknown experiences or anything out of the ordinary..... Have you googled any CBT techiques for anxiety there are a number of methods on dealing with anxious thoughts panic attacks etc its worth looking at. We all have our share of anxiety or depression or both even other illnesses we didnt ask for in life however we are much stronger fighting the battle nothing can break us

Hi Linda
I have been on cit for over 7 years now started on 20mg now on 10 mg what you are describing is normal .If your doctor upped your meds this will cause symptoms . I have had 1 really bad set back due to some antibiotics i took but apart from that small blips .I always think the same oh im going back to the beginning you just need to train your brain to stay calm breath through it, i have 10mg propronol when i feel that i cant which helps . I did a lot of research and did cbt sessions . I know its easier said than done to try and stay positive when u are in the midst of feeling crap but just keep saying to yourself you will get through it
