Why am I burping so much/burp gets stuck??

It all started last week when I ate a bad case of Chicken Panang Curry. That night we were getting ready for bed drinking some sleepy time tea when I felt the need to burp. It got stuck, I freaked out and it went back in.  I started freaking out and realized that I couldn't burp! I finally burped after relaxing my mind and my throat muscles but wasn't satisfied. I then drank a fizzy drink and it just made things so much worse! That entire night I slept like 2 hrs, waking up every 14 min or so trying to let out a belch. I would be successful at times but then it would get stuck again and that's how that night went.  I woke up much better with being able to burp but the burping frenzy didn't stop. It kept going on all day.  I took some antacids which seemed to make things worse.  I finally went to the doc a few days later and they said I have acid reflux.  Been on meds for a bit and they help just a tad but now I've developed anxiety.  I've gone to the gastroenterologist and I possibly have an Ulcer.  I have an endoscopy due on April 9th.  I'm afraid of that.  I also have an appt with a psychologist to help conquer my fear of inability to burp at times.  This is the strangest thing I've EVER gone through.  The doc also prescribed Xanax but I don't want to take meds that will mask the problem.  Unable to sleep properly due to severe anxiety in my chest/heart beating super fast/hot chest/ringing in the ears/dizziness.  I've learned to conquer it slowly but surely.  It definitely is a mind over matter thing because as soon as I stop thinking about it the burps come right out.  All I want is to get my life back.  I want the food to stop coming up everytime I eat, I want to eat normally again and not be belching up a storm all darn day without freaking out that one or two is going to be hell for me. Does anyone have any advice as far as what to do naturally? I have researched breathing techniques and it helps with the anxiety, it completely eliminates it.  I've also since shopped for an anti-acid reflux diet so hopefully, this will help me get back on track.  I've also since started being more active with exercising but for the freaking out episodes, does anyone have any advice?? I know it's a lot. Sorry!

Hi, I am assuming you are female, and I ask only because I am wondering your age?  When I was going through Perimenopause, which began in my 40's, I had so many things that manifested, including a terrible increase in anxiety, which I had always had, but had always dealt with pretty well.  I also had physical issues, so just wanted to ask that.  I still battle anxiety, but since I am not working anymore, it is much easier to handle.

Hi there. I have a condition called eosinophilic esophagitis that causes similar symptoms to GERD where I burp and have reflux a lot. It's been a lot better after I saw the GI doc and got an endoscopy to confirm a diagnosis. Honestly, taking xanax at night to relax before bed or help you sleep might not be a bad idea for the short term. When do you see the psych? I also have OCD so I know how it feels to be stuck on a certain thought. Have you had anxiety before or is this new? Minds are strange things. A combo of therapy and medicine has brought my daily anxiety level to zero for the past couple of years, I'm hoping to come off the anxiety medicine soon. You can try to calm yourself if you feel an attack coming on but your therapist will have more advice. good luck, let us know how you're doing!
