Why am I waiting?

I'm so tired of trying to get a surgery date for my hip replacement. After complaining to rlbuht I was told today the earliest date is 30th July. I've no idea what state I'll be in by then, IF it goes ahead! I'm sure it's supposed to be done within 18 weeks from referral -ha!

Know how you feel , the waiting is worse than the op . I was on the list for 15 months and had pre op assessment 3 times because they run out !

waiting was my only complaint , op in local NHS hospital was brill !!!!

    good luck

    Hi Patricia

The nhs is contractually obliged to offer you a date for surgery within 18 weeks of you surgeon saying you need surgery. They are also onliged to offer you a date to see you consultant within 18 weeks of being referred by your gp. If your lical surgeon cannot provide this service you may be offerred a surgeon and venue anywhere in the country or it may be a private hospital locally. It is then up to you whether you accept this or wait for a local place. You can find out more by googling 'patient charter' which should also give details of what to do if your local nhs is in breach of this.

    Good luck

Patricia it is 18 weeks from the time you see the consultant not from the time GP writes the letter. You are supposed to see consultant within 6 weeks of referral so they are still within the guidelines at 24 weeks from start to finish

Of course some areas are bogged down and perhaps do not have enough hip surgeons. My area so lucky

    Hope this helps a bit

That's odd. I'm under Rlbuht and can't fault the service I've received. I saw my GP mid-March, a surgeon early April and had THR last week. I was surprised how quickly it all happened.

Hi Patricia! Poor you! Have you heard of choose and book? Google them! Then ask to be referred to a private hospital but under the NHS! I had mine in march at the Nuffield in Woking! Good luck regards Amanda
