Why aren't the steroid creams helping?

Symptoms started earlier this year. Not been formally diagnosed with LS but had small itchy spots and 'paper cuts'. Whilst annoying, it was manageable. Since being prescribed Mometasone and Hydrocortisone, it has been hellish. Flare up around back passage has lasted almost a week and I'm in tears at the discomfort and pain. Difficult to walk, sit, sleep and I'm so anxious that this will develop in the worst way. Have told no one, not even my partner, as I'm ashamed but will be difficult keeping it to myself as the pain is showing in my face. Why aren't these creams working? Do they work for you? Constantly using Dermol moisturiser but can't get relief.
