Why do I get outbreaks every month?

My husband gave me herpes. He doesn’t get any outbreaks since his first one but I constantly get them especially around the time I get my monthly period. Is there a reason why? It’s becoing unbearable and I’m falling into depression. are there any tips anyone can give me to stop them? I get sores and burning, skin peeling and crazy back and leg pain. I don’t know what to do. They last two weeks every month

    Hello abbie

My impression is that your experience is quite common. My Herpes is very mild and outbreaks infrequent maybe twice per year. the outbreaks themselves are barely noticeable. I inadvertently gave it to my girlfriend, which is a source of great regret. Unfortunately she had monthly outbreaks and severe symptoms like yourself. Also some odd neurological symptoms during some outbreaks. Acyclovir tablets definitely helped her but didin't entirely suppress the outbreaks.

I have heard that lysine supplements can be helpful, but I've no personal experience.

Conventional pain killers e.g. paracetamol, codeine don't help much.

I heard of beneficial relief from, lemon balm cream, tea tree oil or lidocaine local anaesthetic gel. You might want to experiment with these.

In the long term your outbreaks should become less frequent and milder as your immune system gradually gets on top, but I expect it will be a rocky road.

    You have my sympathy

Hello, I just went and saw my dr again. I was diagnosed in feb. and I been getting them monthly as well. And she didn’t do a dam thing.  I keep searching trying to figure it out. It is upsetting and cruel for sure. I hope we both gets some answers. Cause I need to know to. I was hoping maybe she would give me daily pills or something but she didn’t. She still told me to take antiviral as prescribed. It sucks for sure 😞
