Why do I have to pee immediately when I get the urge to pee?

When I get the urge to pee I have to go immediately. I cannot hold as much urine as I used years ago when I peed, about half the amount. I am overweight at about 5’7 and 198 lbs.

I had a blood test and it showed nothing wrong. I am not prediabetic. I even had a urine test and nothing was wrong. In the past I have held my pee longer than I should have and that may have weakened the bladder walls if that is the correct saying. I drink half to one cup of decaf coffee per day. I eat a lot of frozen food entrees and drink a lot of diet soda.

I am thinking it might be an overactive bladder or irritable bladder. I am considering seeing an urologist soon.

    Hello,

Think about few things i will note:

Are you riding a bike a lot?

Have you got any accident when you felt down your crotch on a bicycle frame? Or any similar accidents?

I would suggest you to do cystoscopy as it can be bladder neck obstruction. I remember first days with this s**t.. Urge in one second and very painfull that i had to go instantly and couldn't hold. After that i was waking up at night every 2 hours. And after that urgency all day, around 20 times a day. Nightmare.

Thanks for the reply. I do not ride the bike a lot and have not gotten into an accident. I do not want to do anything invasive at this time for fear of pain and not wanting something invasive in general.

I do not have to go unless I drink liquids. I don't drink anything for about one hour before I go outside and then pee before I go out. I do not have to wake up at night to pee but when I wake up in the morning I have to go immediately.

I know what you mean. I had the same at the beginning of obstruction. Okay, so far just watch your symptoms. If they got worse - try to do something with that. Visit urologist for sure 😃 He will be able to help you more.

    J,

You should see a Urologist and do a post void residual test. It will show how much you retain after urinating. I suspect your retaining more than you have in the past, which will shorten the time until the next time you have to urinate. You may also have a urinary track infection (UTI) so you could get checked for that. They are both simple and inexpensive tests.

As others wrote, go see a urologist.

Book asap to see one in say 3 weeks' time.

Before you see the urologist, I suggest you take note of home often and when you pee over the period of one week.

Then do the same for the following week but this time have a week where you STOP ALL sodas - diet or sugared. Sodas are known to aggravate the bladder.

if you still see a problem with peeing after a week of no sodas then by all means see the urologist.

Thanks for your responses. When I say immediately I mean I might be able to hold my urine for a few minutes. I believe I do not have a UTI because I have no pain and I had a urine test and no bacteria was found in the sample. I will try modifying my diet first with no diet soda and coffee. I was able to drink these in the past with no problem but it is worth a try.

It is highly possible that you had no issues with sodas and/or coffee in the past, but now you do. Like all things, the body can tolerate a level of foodstuffs which in certain amounts or over time become intolerable.

      It's the same with meds.

      Good luck!
