Why do i keep finding blood when i wipe my bottom?

Posted , 6 users are following.

For quite some time now I find blood on the tissue when I wipe my bottom after going to the toilet. I went to the doctors about this and she said "oh it sounds like piles" and sent me away. I am not happy with this response as recently I have lost over a stone without trying to, (I eat as normal). I am also tired more than usual and have a lot of body aches. any ideas what this could be? I was worried it could be bowel cancer as cancer is common in my family. any advice or information will be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Hello Rabiya, First of all let me know how the blood looks like.

If blood is bright red in color it might be a hemorrhoid, tear or squeezing.

If blood is in dark red color it could be serious.

As you said already you have a history of bowel cancer, first observe the blood color and get checkup by the doctor for further concerns.

Hello Rabiya.....As zophai said that you need to consult your doctor. The causes of bowel cancer are dietary habits, genetics, drinking and smoking. So consult expert and have treatment..Good Luck..

    Dear Rabby,

I'm not sure, but I don't think that bowel cancer causes blood to be visible on the toilet paper. I have regular bowel screening, and they are looking for 'occult blood' or blood within the stool. You don't say whether you have any pain or not. If you have lost weight for no reason, your GP should look into it. You might have another bowel condition, such as Irritable bowel syndrome, Crohns disease or Coeliac. Can you make an appointment with a different doctor? Tell them about the weight loss and that your bowel movements are normal apart from the blood (ie you don't have trouble passing the stool).

    Good luck.
