Why do some pills work and others don't?

I've been taking the brand name Zoloft for about 13 years now. I've tried the generic but it didn't seem as effective so I stuck with the brand. This year my insurance quit covering brand name if there is a generic equivalent. So it's almost $1,000 for a three month supply with the discount card whereas it used to be $150. ouch!
But what's weird with my last refill of 50 mg, which I've taken for years, the medication doesn't seemto be working. It feels like poison and I feel like garbage. It's easy to say that the medication has pooped out but I have some pills from a prior prescription that seem to work fine.
I'm sure if I tell the doctors they'll say it's not possible and blame it on my ocd. But I can definitely feel the difference with the prescriptions. I try convincing myself it's in my head but I can feel increased nervousness and more avoidance. I wonder what gives? Especially since it's so expensive, I would hate to buy them only to feel they're not working and not use them.
If I tell a doctor, they'll want to raise my dosage but I'm hesitant about doing that.
Has anybody else been through this before where one prescription from the next isn't effective? Or what's going on do you think?
thanks for your time,
Nathan

hi
sorry no one has replied hopefully someone will be along soon who has an answer for you better than mine
when I was on citalopram if my brand was changed I would feel terrible.
it all depends on the gap between taking your generic and your normal brand.
if it was fairly recent then I would say that you may be having slight side effects from changing brand and it should settle.
if it's been a while I would probably wait and see how you get on, I'm not gonna say it's in your head because anxiety can do awful things to you and trick you in so many ways.
have you considered ringing the manufacturer's and asking if they have changed any ingredients in the tablets recently. some people are sensitive to the fillers in the meds and a slight change may have knocked you back a little.
it will settle once your body gets used to it if that is the case
sorry I couldn't be more help
