Why do they lie?

Having been told by CPN and Psychiatrist that there is no lower dose than 37.5 and to wean off I have to take every other day which to me is a nightmare as I have experienced missing one dose. I now discover there is an oral solution available on prescription which would make tapering a lot easier but again have been told it is not available. Is it all down to cost? All I am asking is for them to be honest with me as I am fairly intelligent and not stupid.

I dont know if this is any help but i take the extended release capsule of this medication. I opened one of the capsules the other day to find 12 tiny individual tablets inside. At the point i hope to reduce i will remove a tiny tablet over a sustained period of time. This seems to be a sensible approach. My current dose is 150 mg in one capsule.

I also take this drug and want to get off it one day. I know only too well how bad it feels when you forget a dose.
However, I have two friends who have successfully done this. Both did it by changing to a different anti depressant. Although offhand I cant remember the names of both the drugs each of them changed to, I do remember that one was prozac. After persuading the doctor to let him change (which wasn't easy and the doctor told him it wouldn't work ) he took his last venlafaxine one day and the next day he took his first prozac. He had absolutely no problems with withdrawal from venlafaxine. He took prozac for a week and then discontinued all depression medication. No problems with withdrawing from prozac and he has been fine now for 2 years without anti depressants.

you can cut the 37.5mg in half with a pill cutter. I did. Or the 75mg in 4 so long as it is not slow release.

I tapered off by removing beads from my 37.5 extended release capsule. I can't remember how many beads were in mine (I think maybe 37 or 38) and i would remove one more bead every few days. I've been on it twice and the first time had no real idea about tapering so I went from 225mg to 0 in a couple of weeks. This tIme was much easier counting the beads. I finished tapering ten months ago or so.

There are 3 mini tabs in the capsules which can't be cut or crushed as it compromises the slow release.
