Why does my heart hurt when I receive bad news?

Hey everyone, I'm a 17 year old male (162lbs) who has absolutely no history of heart issues. I've even had an echocardiogram, EKG, and month long holter monitor test- all of which have come back as normal.

Earlier I received some bad news and I felt a surge of adrenaline around my chest area along with some sharp pain. In total this lasted around 10 seconds before everything went back to normal. I have a feeling this could be related to anxiety but why exactly does my chest hurt because of it. Can adrenaline make a perfectly normal heart hurt?

    hey!

YES your chest or heart can hurt when you're nervous , scared or excited. Mine pounds super hard when i am and i have to make myself calm down. As long as it is not constantly happening with no rhyme or reason

from my understanding dealing with anxiety is it can cause actual pain. what you were feeling was most likely your heart skipping a beat as a result of shock from the bad news you had, and afterwards you were just feeling a bit of stress regarding your heart skipping a beat. im sure theres nothing sinister going on bro so dont worry. speak with your doctor about it if you're feeling stressed out about it. im not a medical professional but it definitely sounds like a release of stress hormone after bad news and a skipped heart beat.

Thx, after all it only happens after sudden bursts of stress. Just like that feeling when a jumpscare catches you off guard while watching a horror movie. Pain for a few seconds and a rush in the chest then a few seconds later it all goes back to normal. I just hope that my heart is strong enough to handle stress and this isn't a sign of it being weakened or anything.
