why don't psychiatrists follow their own website advice on bezodiazepam withdrawal

Posted , 3 users are following.

i have been pointing out the advice given by their own Website to psychiatrists recently as to benzodiazepine and/or Zopiclone withdrawal. They will not have any conversation and avoid me like the plague.

Google:

Royal College of Pschiatrists --- type benzodiazepines in the search bar ----- read the box just above managing withdrawal which says it all!

further down you will see Zopiclone is also mentioned but little else!

The page you reference is not bad and highlights the addictive nature repeatedly, but it is true, they don't seem to follow their own advice about short term use, as there are MANY people on here using them and the z-drugs chronically!

Yes but I have somebody at a group who was on 2mg day for 7 days only? It took months to wean them of with elixir

Another person was prescribed 10mg tabs for a bad back (50 of them), he wouldn't listen and took one tab. His sister a nurse ( I fostered her when young) I had told him not to take any but wanted another - I contacted his sister who went to his home and had to fight to get them off him as he felt better,

How can they set the length of time before addicted as not much research has been done. Withdrawl is far too fast on their website anyway -on what evidence is it based?

If you could rewrite what I've posted can I edit? Regards Sonia

True they recommend a faster taper than should be done but it is actually slower than most have you do here in the states!  benzo or AD, they have people come off within 4-6 weeks regardless of how high the dose or how long they were on it!  At least they qualified their answer with "though some may have to go slower", and they did say some have withdrawal for months or even years, and no p-doc here in the states will admit that!  But I see your point :-)

I don't think you can edit an original post, so if I were to copy and post it, all you could do is comment on it.  I saw that you got it posted under Benzos, too.

      Yes I did

The moderator sent me an email when I tried to post " why weren't benzos and Zopiclone classed together as we as separately. His answer was they don't get much interest in benzos but do for zopiclone. I've monitored it for s week myself and I can honestly say he is wrong. I am replying to his emsil but need to word carefully. How would you word it?

I used to take diazepam and could stop with no addictive symptoms as long as not more than 5 days worth? For what its worth ad they were only 20mg.

Diazepam as with all benzodiazipines are cumulative so will probably catch up eventually! All Z drugs are the same too.
