Benjamin, you may well have a fungal infection - most often that is caused by unprotected penetrative vaginal sex - but I would suggest you have something far more than that as well.
This is a severe dermatological reaction going on: have you been applying anything like a cream or ointment to your penis recently?
If not, think of ALL the things that are in contact with the skin of your penis, such as soap, shower gel, skin creams and lotions, lubes for sex and masturbation, condoms - and so on.
The essential thing is that the only thing that is safe to wash your penis with is water - when you take a shower, draw the foreskin as far forward as you can to protect the sensitive skin of the inner-foreskin and the head of the penis, wash and rinse the rest of your body, then expose the head of your penis and use the running water and the inside of your hand to clean the foreskin and head area.
The other essential is to keep the head and foreskin as dry as possible, use a clean dry towel that ONLY you use after a shower or washing your penis. After sex or masturbation you must to a thorough clean up, be vigilant and check for the next 2 hours after ejaculation that no more semen has reached the head area of your penis. Use tissues or a clean small towelling face cloth to initially clean up, then go wash and then 100% dry the penile skin.
If you are applying anything to the penis at the moment, exclude EVERYTHING until your skin recovers, depending on severity and cause, this could take several weeks or even an extended period of months!

hi wee_dougie,
i was at first using hydrocortizone/clotrimozole to treat a yeast infection that i got whilst working out in the gulf of Mexico. Doc said it can be caused from a combination of poor hygiene and being in hot and humid climates, it has been on an off for a while now but nothing seems to completely fix it.
I have also recently moved in with my long term girlfriend, she has eczma and insists on using non bio tabs for the washing, up until this point i have always used normal biological powders and fabric softeners could this be the issue? i haven't changed my shampoo or shower gel in years. I shower everyday and have done the same cleaning regime since i can remember. however we have recently switched from durex lube to ky jelly..
once i have had a shower and cleaned up it all seems to be OK again. doesnt peel or go flakey when floppy only when foreskin is pulled back over the head during foreplay or intercourse.

sometimes its as simple as from changing to a.normally used product to something different that is the cause

It can take the skin quite a number of months to recover, and any advances can easily be reversed.
The best approach is to minimise contact with anything that is chemical based, so soaps, shower gels, and form of body wash - also limit using anything you regard as a lube for masturbation or sex, also fully wash, with water only straight after use.
The other essential is to make sure the skin is 100% dry after washing.
My fear is that you may be in the early stages of developing a severe skin condition, this is why it is really important to exclude everything that can contact the penile skin as much as possible.
I have an incurable skin condition on my foreskin and head of penis, I learned the hard way, prevention is better than dealing with something for the rest of your life.
Safest thing to wash underclothes and any sports shorts you may wear is Liquid Soap Flakes, comes in a bottle, get it from any main supermarket - you can either pop a small contained (top of bottle usually) or place it in the powder dispenser at the from of the washing machine.

Hi Dougie,
I have taken your advice and have stopped using any cream and have been cleaning without soaps mainly just water out of the shower head, the condition is now pretty much normal. As a precaution to other comments made on this thread with regards to a yeast infection i also got hold of Canesten Duo cream and tablet.
thanks for you help.
