There is over 10k members on this site.... Herpes is a very old virus and yet there is STILL no cure.... WHYY???? HIV has no cure but with proper meds it is controlled and untransferable yet HERPES is still highly contagious and no cure and or nothing to truly prevent the spread of it.... WHYYYY ??? Why haven’t this community pushed for and demanded research to cure this disease and stop the spread of it... We wouldnt even be here askign is this herpes but rather how long did it take to secure, supress , and control this VIRUS!!!!

Untreated HIV has a 100% fatality rate. The need for treatment was crucial. Herpes and HIV alike are both incurable because of the latency/dormancy ability of viruses, in which they can remain in your cells but in an unactivated state, which is why no treatment can fully, 100% get rid of either virus in the body. On the other hand, HIV is not nearly as easy to spread in comparison to herpes which literally requires skin-skin contact, sores don't even have to be present to transmit. with such a sneaky (but overall mild) virus that can apparently asymptomatically shed, it's difficult to treat and prevent transmission, let alone cure.

I hear you but herpes was here before HIV, Covid19, Monkey Pox, and etc... I get exactly what you are saying but this is STILL unacceptable!! They have treatments and Cures foe everything else and not one of the oldest viruses around...... SERIOUSLY! EVEN HIV has a know CURE Stem cell transplants have cured a dually diagnoised individual who suffered from lukemia and HIV. Its time for the herpes community to DEMAND some darn action ...

There is some really promising work at fredhutch.org -the latest 'cuts' the herpes virus to disable it. However... it's in research stage.... what humbles me is there are scientists dedicated to a cure no matter how long it takes and for that I am very grateful and in awe of the amazing work they do. I do make a small donation each month (and emailed them to ask it goes directly to the herpes research, as they are also a cancer research centre). I opted to be kept up to date and I receive regular comms and notifications when a webinar / interview is available which I think you can do even if not donating. I just carry on hoping that there will be future generations who never have to live with genital herpes - keep strong everyone and big virtual hugs to you all xx
