Why is Zopiclone so awful

Posted , 22 users are following.

Will somebody tell me the reason for the hysterical comments, and hate

campaign against this sleeping tablet . Please don't tell me to read

yards of stuff on different forums and sites, What is so bad  about it. .

I get sleep, and nothing else, (thankfully ).

It can't be so bad ,some people have used it for years,so they say,

So, no yelling or shouting, or soap box attitudes, just tell me, nicely,

what it's all about  ..

Hi my names Anne I've been talking 7.5mg every other night for over one year and I love it, my doctor gives me 14 every 4wks and I sleep every other night, on the night I don't take a tablet I am awake alnight but that's because I got PTSD, I suffered no sleep for four years before my Gp would give me some zopiclone and am happy to say it works, taking more I think complicates things. I read your comments and was of the same opinion as you. I don't understand why anyone would be against zopiclone either. I think if taken properly it works. There might be occasions where if worried about something I may wake earlier. Reading some of the comments worried me but now I no it will work if not abused. Your comments actually stopped me worrying.

      Hello anwar,

what a really nice surprise to read non attack comments.  which have been rife ,and totally uncalled for .

sleep is paramount, for everyone, if we don't get enough, it's  like adding a disease. i take the same dose as yourself, and have no intention of increasing it,or stopping it. My main reason for taking it is Tinnitus, which  I'm stuck with, as there is no cure,as yet ,for it. Consultants that I see, have no objection to my using Zop, because I think they are all aware that  Sleep deprivation is not good.

Glad  I have set your mind at rest. As you quite rightly said, if it's not abused ,it does it's job.

      Sleep tight

Hi Anne: Really enjoyed your sincere post (with "non attack comments"" --I agree!) I must say I admire your self-discipline and your wisdom. It's true, I believe, that if you can keep up the control like that then you are managing well. I wish I had done same.

I also have PTSD and when I was first prescribed zoplicone I wouldn't take them. I was afraid as I've had addiction problems before. Anyway, got sick of being up at 4:a.m. when I had to be at work for 7:oo a.m. I went for years on 7.5 or half that, then suddenly got up to 3. I'm 55 years old now and although I'm down to 7.5 again I've noticed changes in my memory etc.that the same doctor thinks is from the zop. It's when you get older that all this stuff becomes problematic. Hope u find a resolution beforehand. Bless you Anne and thanks again!

My doctor has recently been told to stop prescribing these, and she now uses alternatives, this was related to myself recently by her, as they were all told to 'refresh' on a course recently.  Now, she well knows I cant just stop instantly, but she does not recommend me taking them further, and the onus is on me now to do so, of course, with her help, and further medication.  She has admitted, that after this refresh, these drugs are not something 'she' would prescribe again.  So take what you will from that.  She is very confident that I can come off them soon, but the problem is myself, as I'm now too scared to do so.

This is happening all over the UK, but don't think that you will be able to get off zopiclone easily. It takes many, many months and I hope that your doctor is fully aware how to help you to do this. Whether you want to or not, all GPs in the UK have been told not to prescribe benzos and Zs to any more patients, except for very brief periods of time.

Since it was doctors who prescribed them in the first place, it should be doctors who arm themselves with the information on detoxing patients.

I'm sorry. I'm new here. How do I ask my own question? Sorry if I'm butting in on jacquelinep1135 post as a comment. Bit lost here. But can someone help me please. Ive been on zopiclone for over 10yrs prescribed by my doctor. He cut my amount for the month and halved the dosage which was no good to me cos by this stage I was on 3 or 4 a night, probably cos of tolerance so this left me short for the rest of the month with none until I cud fill the script again. Of course I Thad sleepless nights but things got worse. I started having stomach problems and i mean pains, cramps, nausea, running to the toilet and now I'm having blackouts that last about literally 2 seconds, more like seizures cos my arms go straight out and stiff and my throat goes into spasms opening and closing rapidly and im trying to get breath when I come too and my heart is racing. I'm terrified. Please has anyone else experienced this. Is it bad withdrawal. I don't know wot to do :-(

Sorry for long story, just didn't know how to get it across. Thanks guys

      Hi Oden007

I am so sorry you're going thru this. I would say it IS withdrawal. I'm no doctor but I know that you better see one and tell them how you had to stop the Zoplicone completely. I think your withdrawal is at a dangerous point. I've withdrawn from other drugs before and its much how you describe. But the black out is dangerous. I'll keep you in my prayers. Please keep me posted. Lisa

    Dear Jacqueline

Please see a GP as a matter of urgency (as Lisa has advised ). Sounds like withdrawal and must be terrifying. Please be honest with the doc, I know how difficult that must seem as you have been using more than prescribed. I have indeed walked that walk. Your GP will help by prescribing a proper withdrawal schedule which will prevent the scary stuff going on. In the meantime Google 4-7-8 breathing which will help with anxiety & sleep. I don't know why but it truly works - I was a complete sceptic. Good luck

    Hi jacqueline,

I've been on Zop 7.5 mg for about 6 months. They do work, However, they give me a side effect of a ravenous appetite.

    Have you experienced anything similar?

    hi hi jacqueline.

i quite agree with what you said.

i have been taking zopiclone for many years now, and that is the only way i can get any sleep.

i only seem able to get around five or six hours a night, but thats better than nothing.

without them, i would be a wreck.

some people on this site make out they are more dangerous than heroin, but i dont agree.

obviously, we would all prefer to sleep naturally, but for some of us it just doesnt happen.

all drugs have side effects, so whats different about these.
