Why Retro?

So, I have a question that perhaps someone here can answer...

Other than a few procedures like Urolift, PAE, HIFU and FLA (there may be others) why do procedures (like TURP, REZUM, Button TURP...) cause RE and can they be performed to reduce BPH symptoms but also avoid RE?

I’m referring to procedures like TURP which somehow cause RE. Can’t these procedures be performed so as not to damage the bladder neck and avoid RE or is that not the issue?

This is Great information for men everyone!

So it appears a TURP (or Button TURP) can be performed and not cause RE if you have a urologist who is skilled and willing to take the needed time during the procedure.

I had read that FLP generally does not cause RE. Unfortunately, that procedure is not covered under insurance so it’s about $21,000 out of pocket. I I also understand that Urolift can be performed without causing RE. I was recently told that Urolift is now being covered under some insurance plans so that is also good news.

Can RGE be reversed? I had a prostate procedure 1.5 years ago that worked great and no more BPH, but I have RGE. Unlike what a Urologist said on here that orgasm is not important is crazy. It is very important. It is what gives you that Great feeling and explosion when you have a orgasm. Maybe if you don't have a full erection the sensation will be less. The combination of both is what drives men to have sex, that big release. The amount of semen can be added in as a 3rd factor. The volume makes the flow with more feeling to the ultimate explosion.

      Good morning Mike

Yes it can be reversed. A few ways. By using something like Sudafed it helps close the internal sphincter so the semen goes out instead of in.

Also I read about a surgery called V - Y Plasty. It is a reconstruction of the bladder neck. Over the last few years the men that they have done it on it has worked and a couple of them even fathered children.

I also agree with you. My orgasm and ejaculation go together. Do not let a doctor tell you that you don't need it. I may not be having any kids anymore but I want it. It is not up to them

Sudafed might help this situation, but could make urinating more difficult. If it were me, I would only take the sudafed in the morning and have sex only in the morning. Waking up at night is when men typically have the most difficulty urinating, so if you take sudafed in the morning it should have worn off by the time you go to bed at night. In other words, you don't want the sudafed to close down the bladder neck at night while sleeping. For some men, it might not be prudent to take sudafed at any time, but the OP mentioned that he had a BPH procedure 1.5 years ago that "worked great". My opinion only and I am not a doctor.

Mike, I haven't seen you post in a while. I see your FLA is still holding up. Were you expecting to have Retro?

      Good afternoon.

Yes that would be the way to do it. This has worked for men trying to have a child but they do not agree for this to me for long time. Let you said. It also has worked for older men that are having retro problems.

How are you Uncle? How are your issues doing? Did you get it taken care of? I took a big break from the Forum, my wife had her cancer return, and then I had a MRSA outbreak from contracting it originally over 7 years ago from being in the hospital. I had my FLA for BPH on April 6th 2017 (1 year and 4 months out). John had preceded me by 4 months. I have had No BPH and all is NO Problem since and it is like when I was in my 30's. The procedure is a breeze from the patients perspective, other than it was around 4 hours long.

I had spells of RGE prior to my procedure. It is about the same as before. Dr K and I discussed the procedure the day before on a large monitor of my 3T MRI DVD taken prior to my trip. My prostate was large and an oversized median lobe. Dr k went in and cleared away lots of the prostate and staying away from the bladder neck, the ejaculatory nerve, seminal glad, which was not bad in that area. By the way, No other Procedure can the doctor have Complete Control and Visual Ability to SEE what he is doing. People forget the benefits of this procedure that the others do not have. That was all verified when we sat down and observed the 3TMRI from the procedure. He did exactly as we agreed to. I wish this procedure could be approved by the FDA so All of these Men could have access to insurance coverage to alleviate this Way to Common Life Destroying BPH Disease, and go back to their Normal Lives they had of a much earlier time. It would be nice if they could find the Cause of why BPH and Prostate Cancer are so closely entwined and Mistakes are made that can take their lives and or ruin their male stature. Look at these forums and how many men have the same or similar problems.

Uncle, I hope everything is good with you. I know there were problems. If you want to PM me about it.Mike

That is 1 year and 10 months out from FLA for BPH, not what is stated above.

John is at 2 years and 2 months out.

      Hey Mike

Very good post. A lot what you are saying is true. You need a caring doctor like Dr. K to do a treatment because they treat the whole person not just the problem.

If the FDA would approve it it would help many men. I can't figure out why it would not be approved. Maybe it has something to do with all the other procedure. Being not all doctors do all procedures. And also there is a money thing.

What get me is that the FDA approves for a man that has cancer to be castrated which it me would be completely devastating. For any man this would be not only physical but emotional to deal with. What kind of life would he have after.

Every man needs to take charge of his own body and treatment. You do not have to do anything you are not 100% sure you want to have done just because a doctor tells you this is what you need. That does not always go well some of the time.

      Take care Ken.

I'm doing well Mike. I did not have any type of procedure. I responded very well to finasteride/cialis. Depending on the day, I pee ~ 20 ml/sec. sometimes more. I won't have anything done until I have to. I'm hoping one of the injectable type therapies has good results and gets FDA approval. Finasteride has been tough on the sex life though. Cialis isn't quite enough to offset it.

I hope the best for you and your wife with your health issues. Sucks getting old.

I don't know what happened to my post. Part of it disappeared.

Anyway, I'm doing well Mike. I did not have a procedure. I've resonded real well to finasteride/cialis. My average flow rate is ~ 20 ml/sec most of the time even higher. I'm holding out hope for one of the injectable therapies to prove their worth and get FDA approval.

I wish you and your wife the best with your health issues. Getting old sucks!
