Why so many frequent outbreaks?

I was diagnosed about a little under a year ago and I had one outbreak after shaving and I went to the Dr and test confirmed that is what I have, i since then have experienced three -four more outbreaks and it seems as long as I keep the medicine in my system I'm ok but after I've been off a few weeks it returns, and I'm wondering if frequent outbreaks are normal, help I'm concerned..

If you have HSV-2, frequent outbreaks can be normal, unfortunately.

Thank you for your answer, and yes unfortunately that is what I have, and I had only ever been sexually involved with one man my whole life in which I was with for 23 years and I found him cheating on me,so he and I ended up splitting and going separate ways ,and it took me a bit but once I started meeting guys again I had around three partners n that time and I ended up with this and I had never ever been exposed until then..ita horrible,it's scary, it makes me feel nasty and alone.

A lot of us feel that way, so I understand. I can't help but look at my life, photos, memories, etc., as either being before or after herpes, but other times I can ignore it. Depends on how busy I am!

That is very unfortunate how you were finally free to see other men, only for this to happen so soon. Life can be so cruel and unfair sometimes! Did you test positive by swab? After the one-year mark, your recurrences should start to ease up, or so they say. I've had it (also Type 2) for around a year, too.

Yes I had a swab test and a blood test And yes I sure hope it eases after the one year mark, and I too look at my photos and things the same way as you do,or I think my family would really think differently of me if they knew,I haven't told even my best friend anything about it, the coincidental thing is my current boyfriend has it as well, he had it when I met him but, I wasn't aware until I had my first outbreak and that wasn't long after I met him, I went to the Dr after I experienced the pain, itch and soreness, and that's when the Dr told me what he thought it was and so I immediately came and told him and he said he had it and had only ever had one small break out and it has been years ago, and at this point he and I had only been talking a little over a week or so, he is wonderful and we are soon to hit our one year mark, thank u for the advice and for listening, God Bless You!!!

Are you a health professional or an individual looking for answers as well? Either way I'm thankful for your listening eat and advice.

Wow, so you were both unlucky and lucky, since you found someone with it, too! I'm assuming you had yet to be intimate with him when you had your outbreak, so it was all coincidental. Talk about destiny!

I am just a person who had the great misfortune to be given herpes, who had been looking for answers and so researched HSV like crazy, and who now tries to offer answers to others whenever I can. Happy to have helped, even if just by listening. smile

I too found this site by researching and yes it was coincidental that he and I found one another,he doesn't seem to have as many outbreaks as myself but he is understanding and very living. Again thanks for listening.

without medication, seems I have almost continuous sensitivity/outbreaks.  I am now up to 2000 mg a day just to keep it at bay.  very disturbing.  I am getting up there in age and think that my immune system is just not what it used to be.  I have suffered with this for years; much of the suffering just pure and simple anxiety every time I feel the slightest twinge.

Did your doctor prescribe that dosage? That's double the highest recommended daily dose.

That sounds great!! How long have you had it and how frequent are your outbreaks? If you don't mind me asking.

Interested to know how that goes, too, because I don't see how an infectious disease specialist can make any real difference in routine cases of genital herpes, or is your case different in some way?
