Wife’s period has been going for 15 days now and not letting up with clots and blood. What next?

My wife’s period was almost 40 days late.

Now she has been bleeding for 15 days and it is not subsiding.

She is using a pad every hour or two and there are small clots coming out.

The blood is still bright red.

We went to the ER and after 4 hours of waiting, we had a blood test confirm her hemoglobin is normal.

She is also having radiating pain in her leg occasionally and her side.

She did ultrasounds earlier this year and discovered she likely has fibroids in her uterus.

At this moment we don’t know if they are cancerous.

What could be causing the period to go so long?

The pregnancy tests she has taken from home have all come up negative.

We are thinking its either a miscarriage or something with fibroids.
