Will I experience withdrawl after one dose of 25mg Zoloft?

Hello, I am a 30 year old male and I was recently prescribed Zoloft to help with Anxiety. I have had a handful of panic attacks over the past couple years have experienced mild, generalized anxiety for as long as I can remember. Lately, it has gotten somewhat worse. I was recently prescribed Zoloft and instructed to take 25mg for one week before bumping up to 50. I took one dose yesterday but after readying some horror stories online regarding withdrawal and side effects, I came to the conclusion that I do not want to put myself through this. I have already endured alcohol withdrawals and I thought the experience would kill me. I am just wondering if  this low dose would still be enough for me to experience these symptoms, because, you know, I am an anxious person and this is currently all I can think/worry about. Any input would help ease my mind/or confirm my worries. Thanks.

simple answer is NO, one dose at 25mg will not have made an impression.....50mg is the therapeutic dose, and you would need to have been taking it for a few weeks to need to consider slowly withdrawing it. Everything has side effects sadly, it's just a case of weighing up pros vs cons, and remember that whilst some people have problems coming off, if done slowly it can be done . Keep well x

Thanks for the response, I just wish there were a pill with no side effects/withdrawal but I no this is not realistic. Unfortunately for me, my anxiety is severely centered around my health and any changes in my body/sensations no matter how small. Even a slight headache is enough to trigger my anxiety and catastrophic thinking about worst case scenario (brain tumor, etc). I know it sounds dumb, but I also look up my symptoms on Web MD and find out that I have 10 different terminal illnesses lol.

      Hi Dean

I tried coming off 150mg Sertraline but after 9 weeks off the med I went back to a dose of 50mg. The withdrawal was bad but this could also have been anxiety. If Sertraline is helping the therapeutic dose is 50mg. I regret being put on 150mg because the side effects were bad, tremor, foggy head, etc.

I also have health anxiety so I was watching for any little change in my body brain from the meds. In your position I would only take the med if you really have to. If your anxiety is crippling then Sertraline will probably help you.

Forget about the horror stories. You can find negatives about anything if you want to. Try looking for positives instead. Sertraline has helped a lot of people. There is no way one single 25mg dose can provide you any answers at all.

And for people saying 50mgs is a therapeutic dose, you are wrong. Sertraline is most effective at 150+. The reason most people quit it is simply because they don't feel well at a low dose and think it isn't working. It is working, but it needs to be at a high enough dose in order to do so effectively.
