Will my eardrops eventually drain fluid that is stuck behind my eardrum?

I've had a perforated eardrum for about 10 years now which never really bothered me, but recently I had gone to the doctor to clean out the ear. At first I thought it was just impacted earwax, but came to find out that I actually have fluid stuck behind my eardrum. I was told that I should get surgery to fix the eardrum, and I've been given ciprofloxacin and dexamethasone eardrops to help.

while it does help with the pain, can these drops help drain the fluid in my eardrum? I can't afford the surgery at the moment. I'm taking 4 drops twice a day for a week.

The cipro is an antibiotic and the dexa is an anti inflammatory. Both together should help with the pain and possibly shrink the fluid mass which may gradually work its way out of the perforation, but it depends on how big is that perforation? If its tiny then it probably wont come through. As you have had that perforation for 10 years without problems these medications may be all you need to clear up the infection, but there is always the risk that you will get more infections as time goes on.
