Can sertraline work again?

A few years ago I was on sertraline for anxiety, I worked my way up to 150g and it worked perfectly for 2 years when I decided I didn't need it anymore. 6 months later the anxiety came back and I went back on sertraline and it didn't work so well, so since then I've tried Effexor Prozac and escitalopram to no avail. Dr wants me to try Sertraline again, can it work again?? If didn't a few years ago??

I was on Zoloft for about a year post partum at 150 mg and it works great. I got off and had anxiety after 6 months or so. I started back in November and worked up to 150 and it wasn't cutting it. I went to 200 and it still wasn't working as well. I also had side effects that I didn't have before. So now I'm back on 150 and she might move me to 100 or start Prozac. It's super frustrating!! She told me that sometimes it doesn't work as well if you stop and start it and you might need a higher dose.

Hi Millie, when you went back to sertraline, how long were you on it before doc switched you over to Effexor? My guess is that you weren't on it long enough when you got back on.

Usually, if it's worked in the past, it will most likely work again, but sometimes you have to increase the dose when you get back on and you have to stay on it a bit longer to see its effects working again. I've been on and off this med about 8-9 times in the past 2 decades, and each time it's scary to get back on because I get all the terrible side effects all over again and each time I fear it wouldn't work like it did the last time. So once you get back on, try not to get off again. I am currently on 100mg and my goal someday is to lower it to maintenance dose of 50mg, but I've decided to stop getting off since my illness comes back. And so, this time, increase the dose and stay on it longer. Take care. XX
