Witch hazel

I'm having a very bad flareup. 😰 Is witch hazel appropriate to use for moisturizing? What about grapeseed oil?
I'm itching and burning at the same time.

Do you not use any steroid cream? I would go straight to mine if I was having a flare up, just to keep it in control as nothing alternative seems to do the same job for me. Sorry I can't be more help. Although some people on here recommend sitting in a shallow bath with borax or baking powder to sooth things down. Good luck.

I do use steroid cream but that's not even totally taking care of it. I do baking soda baths which don't seem to soothe my itching. I'm planning to try borax. I'm just frustrated and distressed. This is going on for weeks.

Maybe you could ask for a referral from your GP to see if there is a gynecologist who specialises in this area. I've discovered they are out there, often practising in private hospitals but they often either take some patients on the NHS or hold surgeries in NHS hospitals as well. We really need to use our local GPS to get further into the medical system. Good luck.

Can't help you either I'm afraid. I've had this ghastly condition for 3 - 4 years and am currently having a bad flare up. I was going to go to my GP but can't get an appointment for 10 days (what the hell is going on with the NHS?!) and all he will be able to do is refer me back to the gynaecologist who discharged me because there's nothing else they can do. On reflection, I didn't bother. Have completely lost faith in the medical profession. Is there anybody out there (in the UK) who knows of a really good specialist, private or NHS? I am just about at the end of my tether. When my genital LS flares up - itching, pain, tissue adhesions - it seems to speed up all the other manifestations of LS and LP - my nails are just falling apart (where I have any left!), the patches on my back are itching and my hair is thinning again. There must be a medical practitioner somewhere who has an interest in this condition.

Hello, I'm going to see an LS specialist in a couple of weeks time. She's called Dr. Deborah Boyle. Look her up. I'm travelling down to London to see her privately as I have medical insurance but she does practice on the NHS as well.

I would have thought that Witch Hazel would sting. Don't know though. I have been using Borax for a few days now and it has given me relief from a minor itch which was just starting.

Sandra poor you darling
I have had LS for 16 years and during a burning flare up I put on Betnovate steroid. Which has for me immediate calm.
After many trials and errors I use coconut oil to moisturise. I too am looking at 'Borax' but am still a little wary of ordering online due to not getting the substituted product !!
Drs and specialists know less than us about the condition.
How can they when treatment from professionals hasn't changed for years.
I hope your flare up settles soon ??

Sedg I'd gladly mail you some borax if your afraid of not getting the right product online. One box will last quite awhile. I'd do that for ANYONE suffering from LS. It has helped me so much. I've only found one Dr out of the 12 I seen that cared or cares enough to help with LS. Dr Lazenby. She is the one that diagnosed me at MUSC in Charleston South Carolina. She travels abroad learning so much about women's health. I hope your doing better. ?

I have heard so much about borax helping LS. I am nervous to try it since i have heard that it can be a skin irritant. Is the stuff used as a laundry additive in the laundry detergent aisle the stuff that you use? How do you use the borax to get relief? Ive heard baking soda is helpful as well, have you tried that before? I just bought a Peri bottle and will try that when using the washroom to see if that helps any. Just switched to a much milder steroid cream, betaderm 0.05% which is half the strength of the stuff I use for my psoriasis. My gynaecologist told me that the clobetasol my GP prescribed a year ago was too strong and I was using it too often and that has apparently caused even more issues. Such a learning curve when you're told something different by everyone! Any suggestions at all would be greatly appreciated:)

I have had LS for 30 years and have just discovered the best cure ever, thanks to this website actually. Mix 4 tablespoons of organic castor oil, 2 DROPS of Lavender Essence Oil and 1 DROP of Lemon Grass Essence Oil. Be very careful with the drops, no more than what is stipulated. I haven't had a itch for over 3 weeks and this is the first time ever I have gone that long. It is like a miracle for me. If you use the Steroid cream for too long (like I have) your skin will get very thin and eventually start to tear. I wouldn't use it more than twice a week and if you try the above you shouldn't have to use it at all!! You can also rather use a baby cream like Fissan Paste or Desitin. Can lather that on as much as you like. Rather shower than bath and after washing "down there" rinse off with cool water and dry very well, even using a hairdryer. Heat and moisture just aggravates the situation.

Thank you to all the caring comments! I am planning to start borax. Thanks for mentioning castor oil. I was also considering that. I did try the witch hazel ( be sure to get witch hazel with no alcohol) and I am finding some relief along with steroid. i think things are settling down a little.
Again... thanks for caring. It doesn't feel quite as hard when you can communicate with fellow sufferers. I was so frustrated with this wretched condition again.

I really hope you try the Castor oil, Lavender and Lemon Grass Essence oils. Honestly after all these years and I have relief at last. It is like a dream come true. Unfortunately at the moment I may have a pre cancerous condition as a lesion has appeared. I have to use Desitin cream for 3 months and then go back to have it checked up. If it hasn't healed I have to have the lesion cut out. I am not surprised this has happened after 30 years of LS and I just wish I had found out about this castor oil story years ago. Anyway, if you do dry the castor oil then please make sure you don't exceed the drops for the essence oils, that's very important. I don't even use the steroid cream anymore. It makes your skin thin over time anyway.
Good luck with the borax.
