Hi guys been a few wees since my last post, I am now on q10 ast 4 days and awaitng results of that, I am 59 year old male walk 3 miles everydaystopped caffine, no booze, no cigs, eat lots of veg, lots of fruit, and these are my result thus far, I must say I took on board what you all said, the first reaing with meanytime of day is always much higher than the next two after, so i average ot the 2nd and 3rd readings, and this gave me the following readings, that my GP told me to take first thing out of bed before eating, in the afternoon and mid evening. I do worry however, because if  i saytake a reading after relaxing to take it, and then say go upstairs to get something, my reading then will be say 170 s 105d but hen come back down again quick, is this normal, because i would be scared if i thought my BP was always high just standing doing anything othr than relaxing when taking BP. What do you think, I also found on that is says for aa 59 year old your BP shouldnot go pass 150 / 90 my distolic is the one that does not want to come down more than 84 unless i super relax.

Your systolic readings are prtetty good. I met a woman who travels round the country doing simple health checks for industrial company employees. She said with BP she is not too concerned about the sytolic readings but if the diastolic reading is over 90 she tells them to see their GP. I did not like to ask her what dietry questions she asked them as she was a bit overweight and eating a Cornish Pasty at the time.

Are you a bit overweight at all. By losing just 10lbs it can make such a difference to the readings. I know it's easier said then done but worth trying to work towards if at all possible.  I get stressed out all the time thinking it's high what can I do to reduce it. Come to the conclusion just take the tablets and forget about it

Hi Michael, your systolic readings are really good and yes its normal for your B/P to go up when going upstairs etc and good that it comes down again promptly. Although your diastolic readings are a little higher than ideal, they are not extremely high and many people are getting readings very much higher. Raised diastolic readings can be caused by anxiety, even anxiety caused by taking the blood pressure frequently through the day. Could this be a factor for you ? Try not to worry, this is not a disastrous situation by any means and I'm sure things can and will improve. You are doing all the right things so with a more relaxed attitude to it all you will soon bring your diastolic down. All the best, keep in touch.

    Bess.

Ps. Derek, your reply really made me laugh ! Margaret, couldn't agree more.

Michael, any doctor will tell you to take you BP at rest to get a normal reading. BP fluctuates with activity,  your numbers look good for your age.  Your stress worrying about it encourages a high reading.  I have been there.  You are doing better than you know.  I suggest you research the "norms" for your age group.

Forgot to mention....blood pressure meds take about 30 days to affect you.

Hi Michael. Great comprehensive set of readings. Keep them going so you can spot trends. I run a dietary log alongside mine and know that if I have a couple of beers my bp will go up. I am currently eating beetroot and garlic (not together!) to see the effect. I suffer from a recognised problem namely "white coat syndrome". This is when your resting rate ie diastolic, goes up when the cuff goes on your arm! Even at home. Trying to chill when hoping for a low reading is difficult. The others are right your readings are not too bad. I was never overweight but have lost nearly a stone now and keep going with the exercise. Apart from the occasional lapse I don't have alcohol and have stopped coffee completely. All you can do is keep your weight to a healthy level, eat good stuff, exercise and ditch alcohol. Good luck!
