Hi Sarah yes there is withdrawn from it all medication and every body has different symptoms so be weary when coming of themĀ

Don't be scared just withdraw very slowly.

You can alternate -- one day the 0.5 and the next two days 0.2 1/2, if you can break it into crumbs.  Do that for a couple weeks and if you have mild or now side effects take crumbs every other day.

Believe me you will not die.  That is a small dose.  I take 3 1/2 mgs a day.

You may have some side effects like maybe not sleeping as well but since you've only been on it a few months, you system hasn't even adjusted to it.

    Stay calm and taper slowly

Always talk to your doctor and theyll help you coming off them. Never wing it yourself. Youll get withdrawals but with the awareness of why you are having these symptons/feelings you get through it. Everyones different just with SSRIS you got to monitor it

Hi Sarah, you won't die coming off such a low dose even if you went cold turkey. Neil

First of all why do you want to stop taking it?  Are you having side effects?  Do not stop taking any medication on your own, ALWAYS do it under doctor supervison.  And discuss the reasons you want to stop taking it with your doctor, sometimes there are ways to gradually reduce a medication so you do not have bad withdrawal symptoms. I don't know your situations details because you didn't really give many but sometimes we need these medications for the rest of our lives, sometimes you have to accept that you have an illness that needs treating, and these medications are part of your treatment.  If the medication isn't working for you or is causing you side effects you should talk with your doctor about changing to another medication or adjusting your dosage.  It took me suffering from anxiety for the past 20 years and many doctors to find a good doctor that worked with me to find the right combination of meds for me.  It was the best I ever felt, unfortunately I am off all meds because of financial and insurance issues but if I could be back on them I would in a heartbeat.  Remember you are your best advocate, talk to your doctor about any and all questions, try different medications until you find the combo and/or dosage that works for you. Don't be afraid to tell your doctor that a medication isn't working for you. Good Luck!!!

Nobody should be on a benzo for the rest of their lives!

I'm sorry mac but I have to disagree with you.  I will be on a benzo for the rest of my life because the med has allowed me to function without the fear of experiencing those horrendous panic attacks that left me totally drained, physically sick, and locked in my house afraid to do or go anywhere.

I understand the long term side effects from this class of drugs being short term memory loss but I opted to trade that for a benzo that give me relief from crippling anxiety.  I never plan to go without xanax and pray that my body doesn't find a way to tolerate it.

I'm curious as to why you made that statement.

Hi Frazzled and thanks for your answer.

I made the statement about very long-term use of benzos because my OH had a huge problem with them - started taking more and more and more and then had to go through a very long and difficult withdrawal process. BTW it cost us jointly a fortune because she was buying them online.

Benzos are meant for short-term use only. It says so in the literature which accompanies each prescription.

If you find they help, good - but be wary of increasing your dose. Tolerance can build up very quickly.

      I wasn't criticising you.

0.5mg clonazepam is a small dose, so although you may get some withdrawal symptoms if you stop taking them too quickly, you won't die.

Always reduce medication doses under a doctor's supervision. And start discussing coming off the clonazepam very soon, because it is addictive. In the UK these meds are only licensed for short-term use.
