Withdrawal symptoms citalopram

Posted , 7 users are following.

I'm now starting to panic how I feel each day since coming off 20mg and then 10mg citalopram 7 weeks ago.

my doctor will say it's not withdrawal

I was also on amiltryptiline 10mg to 30mg for best part of 2020.

question.....can the amiltryptiline withdrawal still be causing problems ....dr says no.

can 20mg citalopram for just 6 weeks be causing the disassociation that I now suffer each day.

just working on CBT

please let me know what you think.

    Hi Martin, hope you're okay.

I too took citalopram for a short period, five and a half weeks but I had horrendous side effects and had to stop. One of the side effects was severe agitation and anxiety went through the roof and it had come back even though I have stopped the meds. I am just hoping they are not permanent or long lasting. I have good and bad days and they crept back in after a month of withdrawal as it doesn't happen straight away I am led to believe.

Not sure this helps but good luck

      hi Alan

      thank you for your message.

it is very helpful as ones confidence soon goes when you dont feel well

it's been 8 weeks since I came of citalopram 10mg

I appear to be getting worse day by day and now looking to CBT to help my condition.

I wish I knew that how I feel is definitely citalopram withdrawal symptoms as I feel so bad every day.

      Hi Larry

still feeling crap day on day .....headache and disassociation which takes an age to clear each day

tempted to start taking the prozac that the doctor prescribed 8 weeks ago.

if I knew it was withdrawal from the citalopram only I would persevere

any advice from anyone gratefully accepted.

Hi Martin, try and hang in there with the withdrawal symptoms as they do get better

My last week was a bit better and I'm now in my seventh week I think withdrawal. You've come quite a long way and it does get better, as I look how I was in the first couple of weeks and now and there's a big difference although it probably seems quite slow.

It shows you can improve but sometimes it feels slow progress but you took the brave decision to come off them and hopefully those withdrawal symptoms get better. And everyone is different and they work in different ways and rates so hopefully you'll see an improvement again

    Keep well

Your Doctor will never say it is withdrawal, but it is. I was on Celexa for 15 years, 20mg a day. Went cold turkey 9 weeks ago and have been in withdrawal since. It last about 12 weeks, can include body pain, muscle spasms, brain zaps, crying, anger, irritability. I am 9 weeks in and still have muscle spasm, body aches, and crazy crying. Don't give up! It does get better, just takes a minute. I did the research and Celexa is the worst for WD symptoms, lasting the longest.

Would the moderator who deleted my post please explain why? As far as I am aware I have not broken the rules. If I have I need to know how for future reference!

yes sounds familiar. I had been on 20mg for 20 years! Coming off slowly, now completely off for about 1 month! I now have very (very, very) low moods, i awake very stressed nearly every night and have to get up as i feel claustrophobic. Feel grumpy a lot of the time for no reason Pretty rubbish really, I had no idea it would be like this; my question is should i head back on at say 10mg every couple of days or stick with it
