Withdrawal symptoms - night panics

Hello

I was on Sertraline for just over six months, with 75mg my highest dose. The medication never settled for me and I decided to tapper off over a 2 month period. I'm in my third week of no Sertraline and it's not been too bad so far. I've had brain zaps and a few shakes, but they have since disappeared.

What replicated them are weird feelings at night just before I go to sleep. It begins with an unsettled shaking internally, then jerking of the limbs. But, last night the simplest of noises was sending me into a panic state. Dizziness and shaking came back. I breathed it away, but as soon as I relaxed, I started to panic (for no reason). I'm taking 0.5 lorazepam to counteract these symptoms.

Is this normal? Have other experienced this during withdrawal?

Jen

Yes Jen and nightmares, this was when I tapered too quickly as you have.

search the thread 'sertraline withdrawal, does it go away' to find out how to taper safely to avoid these nasty withdrawal symptoms.

When you say taper off, how did you do that?

      Hello

I did about 4 weeks on 50mg, 2 weeks on 25mg, then two weeks of 25mg every other day.

I think you came off sertraline too quickly. I would try again, but this time more slowly.

Hello,  I hope you are feeling better. I also have trouble going to sleep and have tried not to take Ativan but sometimes need to.  I tried sertraline (zoloft) to help me through a transition period, but could not handle side effects.   I take Benedryl sometimes to help me go to sleep.  Best Wishes to you.
