Withdrawing from Dosulepin and changing to Sertraline

Hi

My GP has advised to withdraw gradually over a few weeks and then start taking Sertraline 50mg. Is there a better time of day to take the Sertraline? I have changed before and suffered horrendous side effects and then gone back to Dosuleipn. This has now stopped working as I have been on it so long. I usually take the Dosulepin at night and it helps me sleep. If Sertraline makes me drowsy I will prefer to take it at night.

Any advice would be great.

Thanks

Hi Jayne, a known side effect of sertraline is insomnia, however in some individuals it has helped them sleep. Personally, it has affected my sleep and since I haven't found the other side effects too bad, I take it in the morning around 7 am.

Thanks Andrea. I am concerned as I need to drive 15 miles to work and don't want to take it in the morning in case it makes me drowsy and don't want to take it at night in case it keeps me awake. I think I will try the first couple of doses over the weekend to see how it makes me feel. Thanks again.

Hi Jane, sertraline like all SSRI,s are to be taken in the morning. I first started taking them at night and had problems sleeping due to the fact that they are a stimulating med. If they do make you drowsy, then you may need to see you're doc about it. All the best 😃

I would try your first dose on a none work day to see how you get on.
