hello all , this last year has been hell for me both physically and mentally. i am 31 . i started having gerd symptoms about a year ago exactly . my symtpoms were a bit different . Constant excess salivation which never stops , ever . and constant burping . the burps are harsh at times and seemingly for no reason regardless of if ive eaten or drank anything . when i saw gastro they immediately said it was likely gerd and put me on 40 mg omeprazole . They did check for hpylori but was negative . but never wanted to do an endoscopy . the medicine seemed to help innthe beginning . i didnt change my diet very much at all . it seemed to become manageable for a few months until about last month. i now have been experiencing heartburn /chest pain for the last few weeks off and on .admittedly my diet hasnt been the greatest m i also have a mild pain while swallowing in my chest . that is the part that freaks me out the most and has me on edge . food seems to go down just fine, but evry couple of bites of food i notice a pain burning / pinching feeling in my chest . sometimes ill get a burning feeling for no reason at all even before a meal . i have an apptment on jan 10th where i will push for an endoacopy . the anxiett about this is killing me and the excess salivation and swallowing onkt worsens my anxiety . has anyone ever experienced anything like this? i am scared about the idea of cancer obviously , and the swallowing issue has left me freaked out

hi I have had similar symptoms for a couple of years, swallowing, burping excess mucus constantly clearing my throat and coughing, pain in chest after an endoscopy I was diagnosed with hiatus hernia, esophageal reflux, and inflamed esophagus. I was prescribed omeprazole, and , gaviscon, they helped for a while, I changed my diet, to exclude alcohol, cheese, citrus, spices, tea , coffee, fizzy drinks, ect, the symptoms vanished, since I went back to a normal diet the symptoms are back, my doctor took me off medication, I am going to try diet again to see if it helps, it's very boring but it's worth trying as I know it helped before, like you the symptoms are very frightening and affect my life, it also affects my voice and is painful for me to speak, good luck.

thank you for your reply . im sorry you are dealing with this as well . its like this never ending cycle of symptoms that i just cant beat. the discomfort/pain when inswallow is the most scary. sometimes feels like my throat is tight , other times its a pain innmy chest when swallowing . did your doctor ever say the direct cause of your swallowing issues ? like was it just gerd as a whole or perhaps the hernia or inflamation?

hi I had an endoscopy, that confirmed my problems, if you haven't had one then it would be worth having as at least you have a firm diagnosis and anything serious is excluded, I thought for ages that I had something really serious as I had so many symptoms, I have realised now that when my hiatus hernia plays up it causes the chest pain, and pain in my throat, I have difficulty in talking as it's so painful. it's hard because I never know what sets it all off and once the symptoms start, they continue for months, mostly I find it happens when I'm stressed or worried. at this present time I seem to be in control, though I have a cough every morning and still keep having to clear my throat. this is a horrible condition and when at it's worst I just don't know what to do with myself, there doesn't seem to be any magic cure. don't give up though, if you haven't had an endoscopy, then get one, try the diet, it's boring, but it helps, mostly cut down food portions, but eat regularly, sugar caffeine, spices, citrus, chocolate, bread, are all a definite no. I wouldn't wish this on anyone but it's helpful to know I'm not the only one, it's also reassuring to hear from others.
