Wonderful Allergies

Hey all,

I wanted to give some advice/encouragement for people with different types of allergy.

You have probably heard many of the practical steps for dealing with allergies. For example, I have had dust mite allergy symptoms for a while and have taken many of the practical (mainly avoidance) steps with some success.

However, I wanted to suggest that there may also be a psychological basis for allergy type symptoms. For example, people with allergies are known to be triggered by placebos rather than the actual allergen.

I'm not suggesting that allergies are just in the mind, but there may be a psychological element.

With this idea in mind, I would suggest some consideration of psychological/physiological factors that could perpetuate allergic conditions. These may seem a little far fetched at first:

Please consider factors such as ongoing stress levels and your emotional state at the onset of the allergic condition. The immune system is linked to the mind through the mind/body connection. Anxiety around the symptoms may exacerbate symptoms which could be assisted through general relaxation.

Allergic conditions could also be a method through which the body protects itself from further harm. For example, if the body goes into fight or flight regularly, the body may try to stop you from doing things which it perceives could harm you. Allergic symptoms are one way to keep you out of  the running.

If you feel you have unresolved guilt and high anxiety levels, a psychotherapeutic approach could have value. This doesn't necessarily mean going to a specialist, it could simply mean changing an reaffirming ideas from your past around fear and worthiness. When I say 'worthiness' I mean feeling worthy of good health. Many people have unresolved guild issues from their past which can manifest in health problems.

If you have read all of that- thank you! These ideas are just to offer a slightly different perspective. Overall, I believe the most important steps are to follow the medical advice but to ensure that you love and cherish yourself s you are.

Very interesting, thank you for sharing. Stress can trigger anything in body. I myself am going through lots of health issues for a year now, and most of the problems I have puzzle the doctors. They have no answers for me. The stress is the major culprit for me. I developed so many allergic reactions during this past year that I have never experienced before.
