Wondering

a few months ago I lost hearing in one ear, which returned. Since then my nose is permanently blocked, my ears feel full and pressured from inside and my ears ring. I feel constantly aware of the blocked head and ears, which squelch when I swallow, and worried about it all. Have seen doctors who aren't worried, but it's making me very anxious. Anyone else have the same symptoms?

You appear to have fluid in your ear. This will have arisen because your Eustachian Tube has become inflammed. The fluid is simply mucus, which is similar to that which arises in your nose.

When you swallow your E.T. opens. This is the symptom you are referring to. You are probably hearing some mucus there.

The problem is not serious. There is nothing to worry about. The source of your problem is likely to be a reaction in your nose, even if it has not been totally blocked.

It could be caused by a viral infection, but it appears more likely to be allergy. This is why your nose is congested. I may have got worse because of the higher pollen levels.

You are probably reacting to tree pollen, because grass pollen is only just starting.

The solution to your problem is to treat the nose and what is also probably a sinus problem.

I would advise you to read the Patient Information provided by Patient U.K.

I would then advise to consult with pharmacist in the first instance, who will be able to advise you what to take.

Thanks so much. I am a bit anxious at the moment, and seem to have convinced myself it's something permanent or serious and it's making me worse!

I've had similar problems as long as I can remember. The only thing that has helped me is the Earpopper. It is a little miracle device. I woke up Tuesday morning completely deaf in my right ear with pain and numbness all through that side of my face and neck. That afternoon I got the earpopper in the mail. That night the pain was gone and I could hear again.

Hello Polly. I responded because your symptoms and past history sound very much like mine and you asked for this. I have had the blocked ears, sometimes hurting - do yours ever hurt? Do you get it more in one than the other? How are things now?
