Wondering about the usually prescribed creams

Posted , 5 users are following.

Wanting to arm myself with all the info before seeing another doc. I already posted about my possible diagnosis of Ls postpartum.

I’m wondering what the usually prescribed creams do, and what are the side effects. For example I feel like I have read of one hat is supposed to help however a side effect is it can thin the skin. I find this very confusing as isn’t one of the LS things it should be helping thinning skin?

I believe my skin down there is becoming thinner so I worry a doc may prescribe something that would actually make that worse,

As of yet I don’t have much itching, just very dry, slight pale areas and crusty white around edges of clitoris, and slight labial atrophy/fusion with thinning skin.

Val, I understand your reluctance to use the steroid. My gyn said steroids are good for unhealthy skin but not for healthy skin. I suppose in the case of LS it must thin whatever is forming.

I am now using a steroid only twice a week ( doc agrees) after having a reaction (sore and red), but I'm wondering if I should go back to nightly. I think there is actually less improvement from what I can see, though it's struggle to see much of anything. Using the hormone cream has made the biggest difference visually.

I tried using an essential oil blend concocted specifically for LS, but all it did was burn. Tried using a miniscule amount on top of coconut oil to no avail. Was hoping for something milder than the steroid, but the natural oils actually felt like it was damaging the skin.

I do not use the Clobetasol steroid that seems very popular, but a milder one called Triamcinolone. My GP said the mildest is over the counter, the one I use is middle strength, the Clob strongest.

If your doc is a specialist and has experience with treating LS I would go with that advice. Just be sure to keep track of how your body is reacting. I have yet to read of other doctor recommended treatments. Someone posted a cure from using olive oil. To me coconut is more hydrating. Another claimed success with borax sprays. I found that very drying.  You can experiment or go with what the doc says. I am a highly skeptical person when it comes to medicines, but I just don't know of other options.
