Wondering if I have Lyme disease

Posted , 4 users are following.

I have stiff, aching joints and some pain also and am feeling so tired at the moment, it's making work very difficult.

I'm only 28 but was putting it down to having hypermobility which can cause early onset arthritis, but last year I got some bites on my leg (it was more like one bad bite in the crease at the top/back of my leg and then other rashes appeared on the same leg) the main bite it was painful and itchy, I couldn't see it because of its location but when I scratched it something small and black came out of it, I wondered if it was a tick or at least part of a tick. That bite turned very infected and I had 2 courses of antibiotics. Other bites which appeared looked like red splotches but one of them looked maybe bullseye like but it was small compared to what others look like online.

I was wondering if someone could give me there opinion on the rash (I'd taken a picture of it at the time), and the chances this being lyme disease

Thank you

    Hello Mason,

That photo looks like it could be a bullseye rash. Have you shown it to your doctor and told them your history? They need to know that you've been bitten and that you had a rash. Well done for taking a photo - that was a good decision.

I didn't know if I was being a bit silly, the rash did bother me at the time but I was on antibiotics anyway for the infection. I did try to show the doctor those other rashes but he wasn't interested and said they're just other bites and focused on the main infected bite, but I'm thinking with these other symptoms now I should probably see my GP about it. I hate going to the doctors and avoid at all costs. It really helps to have your opinion of the rash so it's not just me who thinks it's a bullseye!

    thank you!

    Hi Mason,

How did you get on with things regarding the tick bite/possible Lyme?

I was also told I have Hypermobility, in October of 2014 and did put my increasing rheumatic pain down to that. Now though, I have other symptoms and had the rash you describe, both on my shoulder and by my ear.

I have become quite unwell now, more or less bedridden. I am being tested for Lyme tomorrow, but from what I have read, the tests aren't too reliable so I am quite scared I won't get a diagnosis, despite me being 99% sure I have Lyme Disease

I hope you are doin okay, I know it's been 4 months since you posted, but I don't particularly trust doctors any more, after having test upon test, with no follow up investigation. My test tomorrow is with Private Blood Tests UK, who use Blue Horizon labs.

    I wish you well x

Take your photo  to a specialist if you can.  If you are in the UK. MAKE SURE YOU FIND A SPECIALIST THATagrees to use USA or German Labs for test. Are you near enought to travel to Hemel Hempstead in the UK. There is a clinic there which diagnosed me. very thorough.

     GOOD LUCK

Thank you so much for your responses, I'm definitely going to ask my GP about it. Unfortunately I don't live anywhere near Hemel hempstead, I'm more up north so fingers crossed my GP will listen to me and do the tests.

Bobbs, sorry to hear you're suffering too, hope you get the diagnosis and get sorted, let us know how it goes!

    thank you all
