Sorry to hear this Darren. Is your dad's barretts very advanced? It's so hard to eat at times when I'll. Make sure he is drinking plenty. If finding hard to swallow then try blending it down. Little but often is the key to it. Realise that's not so easy to do. Have got Barrett oesphagus also, but so far so good for me. How old is your dad?

      Thanks Janet.

He will be 80 in May, and has other problems health wise.

His medication is Omepramazole, this replaced Ranitidine in

November. He had major cancer op in 07, and has permanent Urostomy/Colostomy bags, but suffers with Infections due to

weak immune system. Also has bad discharge from wound/

hole from his Operation, which is infected and sore !!

But he needs to eat to give him energy to fight infections.

I hope your illness is manageable, and thanks for support.

He was actually diagnosed in Dec 14, but I suspect it's been

going on for 3/4 years before being confirmed.

Can see how hard this is for you, and Hope you have some support to help you. I TAKE Probiotic tablets which are meant to help the immune system. Available in health shops. Does your surgery have anyone who can advise you. Or see if there is a support sight locally. Was the op a totall success. If you need to let steam off hear to support you.

He has to take NITROFURANTOIN tablet before bedtime to help with prevention of infections. We can normally cope with his illnesses, but this not eating plus this discharge problem has floored him and us !!

District Nurses have been in, but seem reluctant to get involved.

They told me it's a GP matter, but I was hoping they might check

on his leakage/soreness, but sadly not !!

Don't know where to go for help ?

Operating in 07 was a success, but having CT scan in Feb.

They say it's just routine, as he hasn't had one since 2011.

But I am not sure about the "routine" bit

Hi Darren for your dads anaemic condition have the Drs put him on iron tablets?

      Hi Rob.

Yes, been on them for about 5 weeks now.

Doesn't appear to made any difference.

He had 6 lots of blood taken last week, so we

are hoping for some News this week.

They do do follow up CT scans, so would not worry about that Darren. Did you ring your surgery for advice in the end?

Had Dr visit this morning, it appears Barretts is under control.

They think it's poss a return of the Cancer, it appears that it's a

infection from his previous cancer op wound.

He has CT scan booked mid Feb, and they are going to give him energy foods/drinks to boost his strength so he can hopefully

      attend the Appt.

Doesn't look good I am afraid.

    Darren

This is so worrying for you. I understand as like others have mentioned it is hard to eat when symptons flare, I have just had a very bad bout of food affecting terribly, but it is important for your dad to get nutrition, probiotic yoghurts are good, and very easily digestible plus porridge (if its the pure oats kind and not any with added ingredients). I have tried the forti-sips drinks and am afraid I just couldnt stomach them.  Jelly is good also plus blended fruits.

Hope you are able to find something that works, but do pressure your consultant to assist with this

    Regards

      Thanks L,

He just won't eat anything !! I suspect that because of his

wound in the back passage reopening, or that a new hole has

started in its place, is why the discharge leakage is taking

      place.

If the original hole/wound is infected we could be lucky, if it's a new one, it means the big C has returned according to Dr.

      Fingers crossed for the former.

      Thanks for the support.
