Wooshing noise in ear... can it really be tinnitus?

Posted , 6 users are following.

I know this is something for the Doctors, but im just interested to see what everyone else thinks.

About 7 months ago i had eararche, thinking it was a wax build up i used Otex ear wax removal with the syringe bulb. After using this i have had the classic wooshing sound in my left ear ever since. The sound can speed up, slow down amd worsens depending on where i tilt my head! Its so annoying and when your not thinking about it its not there! It ocassionally has a dull ache but i can hear perfectly fine!

I just wondered if anyone had any ideas as to what it could be or what i could do? I originally thought it was trapped water but after 8 months i doubt it!

Hi see an ENT Specialist, but find one thats knows about this - many have never heard of it. Join the Whooshers group on Facebook loads of advice on there. I started wtih same problem but mine turned out to be a glomus tumor (dont worry this is EXTREMELY RARE) in my middle ear. It could be one of many many different things and can often be sorted.

    Best regards Karen

    hi

if it speeds up / seems to get louder when you walk faster/move or slows down when you are at rest then it could be pulsatile tinnitus.

get your doctor to have a check that there is no infection in your ear.

i got referred to an audiologist who did all sorts of tests but the end result was to suggest ways to notice it less eg listening to tapes of birdsong at night (i kid you not).

if the tinnitus is caused by an infection etc then it should clear up as they clear up the problem.

Wooshing after ear ache is more likely to be silent acid reflux, with no ent specialise can see or help with. It is down to diet.
