    Hi Bernie. A lot depends on what work you do and who you work for. Some companies will allow you to work part time or, if you are really lucky maybe you could work from home as I do. If your work involves computers/admin, this is a real possibility. I find it is the only way. It means you can sit when you need to, move around when you need to, even nap when you need to! If you do have to go out to work, you need to arrange a 'back to work' meeting with your boss and explain your new limitations. You have got certain rights. I am not an expert in employment law but I am sure it is all online somewhere. I would personally do some research beforehand so you know what to expect/request. Hope I have been of some help. Good luck. Debbie

    You need to discuss it with your doctor, Occupational Health and your employer and your union. GCA is covered by disability legislation but I'm not sure about PMR since officially it always states it is well managed with a moderate dose of steroids. If you are still in pain it suggests that either you are not on high enough a dose, you are overdoing it already on the dose you are on or there is always the possibility it may not be PMR.

    Sorry to here that you are having problems returning to work. I assume you are in the UK? Having come this very morning from an appeal panel relating to a formal warning about long periods of sickness by an employee - I would suggest you first have a conversation with your manager and/or HR, in most situtations a trigger point will/or could be triggered (Check your sickness absence in CoE/Policy/Procedures)  I would think PMR could be classified as a disability (stress has been as it could be over an extended period!) and as long as you keep your employer informed thru' the correct company procedures and policies, you can't be dismissed.  You may be able to get your employer to reassign you if this is possible - they are obliged under law to 'accommodate' you .  If there are problems get your employer to arrange an OH meeting who will recommend any course of action to allow you to continue or return to working.  This can be backed up by getting your union or processional body to represent you at any meeting - very advisable!

    I forgot to mention - seek as much advice as you can and if your employer recommends counselling ( 1 to 1 or via phone) take it up - it will help your case.

    OH = Occupational Health

    You need to discuss this with your GP and HR. I have been off work due to GCA on a medical note since Christmas and your doctor will recommend a gradual return to work when you are ready. You should be paid sick leave and normal pay while you are off sick.
