Just wandering if any of you are working while taking sertraline, how this affects your work and speaking to colleagues etc? I am due back to work tomorrow and really dont feel like going but I know I have to for money reasons, it's hard for me , my wife works too and I don't think it's fair if she is the sole income, please help me and write your problems if any while working?

I have worked for 10 years on Sertraline. Never aware of any problems with it. Hopefully all will be okay.

Over the 14 years I was on Sertraline I went to high school, college, graduate school, and worked full time without a problem. You'll be just fine once the side effects that you may have wear off.

I know what you mean though, I finally just got off of Sertraline and am concerned about going back to work because I've had withdrawal symptoms where I don't feel like 'myself' but then again, being on the drug for most of my life I don't know what 'myself' is.

Best of luck though I'm sure it'll all be just fine!

You'll be fine. I work on it.... No problems at all!

Good luck..... It's sometimes not easy, but I think that's my mental health, Esther than the tablets.

Hi Hanky...I too work and have been on Sertraline for over a year.  I don't feel it has affected my work at all ..either in dealing with clients or colleagues. Probably more confidence if anything because I wasn't as anxious. Good luck tomorrow..I'm sure u will be fine.

thanks people means alot reading your comments, im just dreading it really bad and my side effects are really bad atm been sweating millions alllllll night  dont think i will sleep though as i goto bed close my eyes and just think all the time about bad things sad  i just cant help anymore, been on sertraline 50mg since 31/07/14 i just think that my wifes gonna leave me after 9 years, which she convinces me that she isnt going to leave but the thoughts just will not go :* sorry if im keeping on.

Brace yourself for a crap nights sleep then. But you'll be ok.... Tired, but ok! May I suggest the sweating is a symptom of panic, rather than a side effect?  Go down the route of acceptance.... It helps.

      good luck tomorrow!

Hi  hanky   I have been on meds for 3 months now and am working  with no problems in fact feel a lot calmer   do you have a sympathetic boss or someone you can talk to at work if you feel anxious  coz this will probably help you to know that you can get support    also you have been on the meds for such a short time  my doctor told me I would feel worse befor i feel better  and i did  but now 3months on thing are getting much better  for me too the negative thought were the worst and now if i do get any horrible thoughts i seem to be able to move on from them much quicker than before so for me they are fleeting    you will get to a better place  set yourself small goals   going back to work is one  dont think more than one day at a time   good luck  hope everything goes well for you at work  try to remember your wife loves you and wants to support you thru this time  share your concerns  dont shut her out

So the ultimate irony is that Sertraline is predominantly used to treat anxiety, but as it takes a while to work it makes people anxious... I'd say 'take a chill pill' but that is the problem!

Sertraline has worked very well for me - it is now 5 years since my breakdown and I've been on and off it the whole time (currently on 150mg) but it is a strong drug and does some weird stuff to you and that can be difficult.

I was very lucky as I saw a psychiatrist and a occupational therapist and they told me lots about how it works and how to make it work for me. In my experience it works best in combination with with other practices such as mindfulness, yoga, meditation etc. I suffer with very bad insomnia, even on the pills, and have been working full time while finishing a PhD and undergoing some physical health problems and some major work stress. Sometimes it's all too much an I take some time out to rest. This is ok with my work. Sometimes I see a GP and they sign me off. It's ok. Sometimes I just need a day to reset.

Generally I use the Digipill app to complement my Setraline. They are hypnotherapy/NLP tracks and you can find one for most situations. I use the Sleep pill a lot to help me nod off and stop the racing thoughts. They have all sorts and I've even been known to go and listen to one in the loo at work when I've felt too anxious - especially if I have made a change to my meds.

Sertraline has worked very well for me, but it is not magic, it is not perfect, and there are plenty of things you can do to help it work.
