Workouts for aortic dissection patients?

Posted , 2 users are following.

I had a type A aortic dissection a year ago. They patched me up and put me on bp meds and a beta blocker and told me "no heavy lifting", "no sprinting", "no holding your breath when exercising". I also have a type B aortic dissection in my descending aorta.

I do some walking regularly, about a mile each time, without any problems. I worked out at the gym for many years using heavy (for me) weights. I'm not allowed to that any more.

I miss being able to lift weights. I could exercise with light weights like I did in cardiac rehab, but is there really any point in lifting light weights? It won't make me stronger or more muscular.

What sorts of workouts do other aortic dissection survivors here do?

Swimming is good. You also need to avoid straining on the toilet and suppressing sneezes.
