Worried!

Ive had my band since Jan 2015.

Felt no restriction whatsoever after 2 fills. Had a 3rd fill 10 days ago, bringing me up to 8ml in a 10ml band. It was really tight and i struggled a lot with things getting stuck and being sick. But today i have no problem at all. No pain, no sickness.

Bit worried now that somethings wrong, maybe my band has slipped. Although i have none of the symptoms. Just dont know what to expect once you have restriction and how long it lasts.

I had my band fitted in Jan 2015 too.

I have a 14ml band and have just had 0.8ml fill yesterday, bringing me up to 6ml. I felt the restriction almost from day 1.

However, everyone is different and feels the restriction either sooner or later in the process. I thought my band had slipped after being sick a few days ago. I had very bad pain behind my breastbone and couldn't sleep all night. The next morning I felt no restriction at all, and that was really unusual for me. I called healthier weight and they reassured me that as I had no pain, my band hadn't slipped. I had 0.8 mm fill yesterday and am feeling the restriction today. I find that if you follow the liquid/sloppy diet for 3 days after the band fill and then gradually introduce solid foods, that works well for me. Chew every small mouthfull really well before swallowing And then wait 20 seconds before eating again. The 20 20 20 20 rule works well. Size of mouthfull..no bigger than a 20p piece. Chew 20 times or more and leave 20 seconds before eating again...oh and stop eating after 20 minutes.

    Hop this helps 😊😊😊😊

I had exactly the same! A pain behind my ribs then no restruction next day!

I do the 20/20/20 rule. I was just so scared that i went from not being able to tolerate even a lumpy yoghurt, to being able to eAt anything overnight.

Though i am deffo feeling fuller than before the fill.

      😊

I was so scared, I really thought that my band had slipped too. Before I was sick, I was only tolerating really well chewed food. Day after I was sick, no pain and I could eat celery and really lumpy food without really chewing it. Now since the fill yesterday, it's working as before, 😊 Did you feel like you did before the band ? That's how it felt for me for a day or two. Happily, am back to full restriction. My "glitch" was set off by thinking I could eat a chip....just one very small chip....never again !!!

Yes i felt exactly as i did before the band, as if i had no band at all.

Funny enough i had trouble with a chicken salad last night, so restriction was back again. But not feeling restriction today. How odd. Its a whole journey this band business!

Yes, I agree, just as you think your getting used to it all...everything changes.

since my last fill on Friday I can feel the restriction more than ever. It took me all of 20 mins to eat 5 teaspoons of yogurt this morning. still on liquids and soft foods for a few days after the fill.

Oh i was the same after my fill. Couldnt even swallow a yoghurt. Here i am 9 days later eating most things. But i do feel fuller though. Just hope it lasts a good while as im at 8ml now in a 10ml band. Oh god what happens if i get to 10ml? Can that even happen? Oh another thing to worry about now lol 😬

I've just had a 0.8 ml fill and it's suprising how much restriction I can feel with just that little bit of a fill. You may find that they put maybe half a ml in next time around..

Just want to encourage you to persevere - if you are concerned about anything you should contact the hospital

It is a worry when it's a New Way of :Life

I've found there is a lot of pre care and care when you've just had a procedure done then a few months down the line when you're still new to everything there's a bit of a silence

I'm the sort of person who needs to know exactly what should be expected - But then we're all different and what effects one person doesn't effect another

Seek profesional advice if your worried

    Hope all goes well

This seems to be sensible advice . I get the impression that there is generally a lack of advice  and support post-op. Why should this be? Is there a different level of advice depending on whether the operation is carried out privately or on the NHS? What advice is given to patients prior to the operation? What are people's expectations of the outcomes of the operation? This all seems very unclear. People really should not have to resort to asking complete strangers for medical advice.
