Worried

After taking Livial for five months GP sent me for some scans because of intermittent bleeding. On receiving the result of the scans he suggested I need to see a gynaecologist. So far I have had a smear test result with unexplained cells and today I am going in for a D&C.  My gynaecologist said she would not have prescribed me with Livial and any bleeding at all her advice is to cease the medication immediately. I am a little worried.

    Hi Debedee

I have just started my third month. I have had two full on periods & intermittent bleeding. I told my doctor this & he didn't seem worried at all. He seems to think it'll eventually settle down as it's early days. I must admit it is the best HRT I've tried so far so I'm reluctant to come off it just because I'm bleeding occasionally.

However your situation must be very worrying, hopefully they're just being cautious doing these tests. Please let us know your results & thoughts on it all, when you can.

Take care now, fingers crossed for clear results ♡

I had not had a period for 2 + years. I will let you know how I get on!  My advice would be don't take any chances, ask for an ultrasound to be on the safe side.

Hello Debedee, I have been taking Tibolone for 20 yrs and am now 70. I myself have never had any problems with Tibolone nor any breakthrough bleeding. I seem to recall my GP at that time explaining that this drug stimulated the brain into producing its own hormones, so it could be that for some reason you are producing too much. It could  also be that the lining of the uterus has thickened which may cause some bleeding, or it might be fibroids. It's just good that you are getting things checked out. Try to keep an open mind but if they advise you to cease taking Tibolone, well so be it.  I would continue taking them - unless your doctor advises otherwise - then whatever the problem it will show up in hospital tests. Hope all goes well. Let us know. LadyPink

Hi Debedee, Sorry I read your initial posting too quickly and hadn't taken it in that you had already seen your gynaecologist. She is obviously not happy about you taking Tibolone so if I were you, I would stop taking them - but gradually. Cut them down slowly, not suddenly. Once the results of your D&C are known you can discuss things again. All the questions that pop into your head now, write down so you can discuss them with her. Best wishes. LadyPink

I stopped just over a week ago on GPs instruction and funnily enough the pains in my hands (I have arthritus) have lessened, also no aches and pains first thing in the morning, I hadn't considered these might be a side effect of Livial.  Had D & C today, large polyp removed and sent for testing.  Hot flushes returning so trying another off the shelf remedy until I see my gynaecologist in 4 weeks for results.

      Hi Debedee

What great news. I'm so pleased it looks as though they've found the culprit. I wondered if you may have a polyp, a fibroid or similar. I'd had slight bleeding at the start of this year following an operation to repair two prolapses. I too had investigations to see what was causing the spotting and they did a D&C too and checked examined the cells. They found the start of a fibroid. I'd had no idea. Thankfully everything else was all ok. My gynaecologist never once mentioned stopping my Livial so when I asked her - because of my age, should I come off Livial she said "If it suits you and it obviously is, I see no reason why you should". You mentioned having side effects to Livial such as aches and pains etc. I had never had any side effects of any kind from day one - and that was 20 yrs ago, so maybe they weren't suitable for you after all. I hope the overthecounter remedy helps you, so I really wish you well with that. What was it you bought by the way, I'd be interested to find out about it. In the meantime, I trust you'll feel much better from now on. Best wishes, LadyPink

Thanks for your reply. I also have 3 fibroids but she didn't mention doing anything with them! I am taking Femular (recommended to me by my younger sister & a chemist) I am praying it relieves the hot flushes.  I have tried 4 other off the shelf and none of them worked:- Harmony, Remifemen and 2 that I don't remember the name of!  Happy days.......

Hello again Debedee, As you say...Happy Days! Men don't know the half of it do they?

Good luck and thanks for letting me know which remedy you are trying. Always useful to know what the results are from these different pills and potions. All the best. LadyPink

Yes it's great to be able to share experiences, what works for one doesn't necessarily suit another.  I am not looking forward to the next few weeks with these flushes and in particular during the night! Deb

      Hi

ended up being diagnosed with a tumour in my uterus.  Had a full abdominal hysterectomy 3 weeks ago. The good news is that they got all the nasty stuff out and I don't need any further treatment.  The recovery is taking ages and I still am very sore. Hot flushes are dreadful too but not sure what they will do next for them. I have an appointment on 24th so will know more then.  Apparently the Livial was feeding the tumour so it's a good job my GP sent me to a gynaecologist for further investigation when I told him I was experiencing spotting!! A polyp was found when they did a D & C then it was diagnosed as cancerous!  I am very lucky.

Oh my goodness Deb, yes you are so so lucky. What an awful experience for you but you sound very brave! Did you have any other symptons apart from spotting? I am still on Livial as it has been the best hrt I've ever been subscribed. I am still experiencing  spotting myself but put this down to non existent periods anymore as my three last hrts (although non-bleed) made me have long periods of a few weeks at a time.

I will ask my doctor for a uterus scan to put my mind at rest though. Wishing you a speedy recovery Deb & a safer  journey through life ;o )
